Streptococcus spp are opportunistic pathogens that normally reside in the upper respiratory, intestinal, lower urinary, and genital tracts but can cause localized infection or septicemia in dogs of all ages. A retrospective study of streptococcal infection in 393 dogs was conducted to identify the species of Streptococcus isolated, determine demographics of affected dogs, and characterize the d...

Pasteurella multocida serotypes B:2 and E:2 are the main causative agents of ruminant hemorrhagic septicemia in Asia and Africa, respectively. Pasteurella multocida strain PMTB was isolated from a buffalo with hemorrhagic septicemia and has been determined to be serotype B:2. Here we report the draft genome sequence of strain PMTB.

Motile aeromonad septicemia caused by mesophilic strains of Aeromonas hydrophila is a widespread problem in cultured freshwater fish. We announce here the draft genome sequence of the multidrug-resistant A. hydrophila strain Ae25, isolated from a koi carp (Cyprinus carpio) with motile aeromonad septicemia that was collected from an ornamental fish-breeding farm in Sri Lanka.

Free radicals have been implicated in the pathogenesis of neonatal septicemia. The present study was planned to estimate the lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status in neonatal septicemia. The study was done to evaluate the lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status, both enzymatic and non-enzymatic in neonates with septicemia. This prospective study included 44 septicemic babies as cases and ...

Rates of hospitalization due to septicemia (International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification, code 038) in the US elderly population for 1986-1997 were examined, using Medicare administrative data. Age group-, sex-, and race-adjusted rates more than doubled from 1986 through 1997, from 3.42 to 7.42 per 1000 beneficiaries. The 1997 rates of septicemia increased wit...

OBJECTIVE Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CONS) are the most common causative agents in neonatal nosocomial septicemia. Because of widespread methicillin resistance among CONS, empiric therapy with vancomycin is recommended as the primary antibiotic regimen for these infections. In our unit, empiric treatment of nosocomially acquired septicemia consists of cephalothin and gentamicin, which ar...
