This paper investigates when trade could cause the selection effect. Since the increased average real wage induced by trade triggers the selection effect in Melitz (2003), the main issue is the labor market conditions under which trade raises the average real wage. To identify the labor market conditions for the selection effect, this paper employs worker heterogeneity with respect to abilities...

Who Leaves and Who Returns? Deciphering Immigrant Self-Selection from a Developing Country Existing research examining the self-selection of immigrants suffers from a lack of information on the immigrants’ labor force activities in the home country, quotas limiting who is allowed to enter the destination country, and non-economic factors such as internal civil strife in the home country. Using ...

Usual estimates of the female-male wage gap may be biased because female selection could be different in different parts of the labor market. This paper proposes an estimator for the wage gap in models with unobserved heterogeneity in the selection rule. It applies to the subpopulation of “always employed” women, which is similar to men in labor force attachment. Using CPS data from 1976 to 200...

Basic question arises when classification came in picture classification accuracy, ensemble size, and computational complexity. Feature selection is importance for improvement and performance of classification algorithm. Classification algorithm may not scale up to the size of the full feature set either in sample or time but with feature selection help us to better understand the domain with C...

We present a sample of 58 Be stars containing objects of spectral types O9 to B8.5 and luminosity classes III to V. We have obtained 3670− 5070 Å spectra of the sample which are used to derive spectral types and rotational velocities. We discuss the distribution of spectral types and rotational velocities obtained and conclude that there are no significant selection effects in our sample.

the main objective in sampling is to select a sample from a population in order to estimate some unknown population parameter, usually a total or a mean of some interesting variable. a simple way to take a sample of size n is to let all the possible samples have the same probability of being selected. this is called simple random sampling and then all units have the same probability of being ch...

Abstract Introduction: Myocardial Infarction, also known as heart attack, normally occurs due to such causes as smoking, family history, diabetes, and so on. It is recognized as one of the leading causes of death in the world. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the performance of classification models in order to predict Myocardial Infarction, using a feature selection method tha...

Using a sample of professional baseball players from 1871 2007, this paper aims at analyzing a longstanding empirical observation that married men earn significantly more than their single counterparts holding all else equal. There are numerous conflicting explanations, some of which reflect subtle sample selection problems (that is, men who tend to be successful in the workplace or have high p...
