IT 1S now more than a quarter of a century since Goldblatt et al.1 reported that partial occlusion of one renal artery could produce a sustained rise in blood pressure. Wilson and Byrom2 extended this work, and showed that this increase in blood pressure could sometimes be reversed by removal of the clamped kidney. Since that time there have been many reports of the cure of hypertension by neph...

In this study, it has been observed that the natural similarity of the blood flow to both kidneys, despite the differences of length of the right and left Renal arteries, is due to the angle of distribution of these arteries. This angle has been determined to be of 66.7 degrees for the Left Renal Artery and only 51.5 degrees for the Right Renal Artery, in their normal anatomical aspects.

Nephrotic syndrome is a rare manifestation of renal artery stenosis, presented mainly in adulthood. This is the report of a 4 months old boy admitted for hypertension and nephrotic syndrome. Left renal artery stenosis and renal hypoplasia were documented by laboratory and imaging studies. Proteinuria improved with medical treatment, with no need to surgical repair. Blood pressure remained norma...

The purpose of this study was to gain more information on the structure of different layers of renal arteryand comparing these structures in post-natal male and female sheep. To do so, right and left renal arteries of6 adult and 6 newborn animals were dissected; the middle parts of arteries were only collected. After tissueprocessing using paraffin embedding method, 5–6-μm sections were cut and...

The management of atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis in patients with hypertension or impaired renal function remains a clinical dilemma. The current general consensus, supported by the results of the Angioplasty and Stenting for Renal Atherosclerotic Lesions and Cardiovascular Outcomes for Renal Artery Lesions trials, argues strongly against endovascular intervention in favor of optimal med...
