We show that the radiation pressure of an intense optical field impinging on a perfectly reflecting vibrating mirror is able to entangle in a robust way the first two optical sideband modes. Under appropriate conditions, the generated entangled state is of EPR type [A. Einstein, et al., Phys. Rev. 47, 777 (1935)]. PACS numbers: 42.50.Vk, 03.65.Ud, 03.67.-a

A new class of Fabry-Perot filters produced by a multilayer dielectric mirror deposited on top of a reflecting volume Bragg grating is described. The first fabricated prototype for the 852 nm region demonstrates a 30 pm bandwidth, 90+% transmission at resonance, and a good agreement with theoretical simulation.

We consider a network of three identical neurons with delayed output. The model for such a network is a system of nonlinear delay differential equations, consisting of multiple discrete delays. Our goal in this article is to establish the existence, and to give a detailed account of the linear stability, of synchronous and mirror-reflecting equilibria.

The friction force on the moving interface between two different vacuum states of superfluid 3He is considered at low temperature. Since the dominating mechanism of the friction is the Andreev reflection of the massless " relativistic " fermions, which live on the A-phase side of the interface, the results are similar to that for the perfectly reflecting mirror moving in the quantum vacuum.

We demonstrate experimentally and explain theoretically polarization-preserving imaging through a lossy amplitude-distorting medium. This is accomplished by propagating the beam, before its arrival at the lossy distorting medium, through a (multi) mode- and polarization-scrambling fiber and reflecting the signal, after it has passed the lossy distorting medium, from a photorefractive phase-conj...

A reflecting telescope arrangement is proposed in which the focal distance of the objective system is greatly enhanced without increasing the overall length of the structure. The underlying idea is to use a multiply folded optical path. This setup may be viewed as a partially periodic optical system. For small departures of the mirror confocality, analytic results in the paraxial approximation ...

The complete mol-ecule of the title compound, C(4)H(3)ClN(3), is generated by crystallographic mirror symmetry, with the Cl atom, one N atom and two C atoms lying on the reflecting plane. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains propagating in [100].

A fundamental issue in cognitive neuroscience is how the brain encodes others' actions and intentions. In recent years, a potential advance in our knowledge on this issue is the discovery of mirror neurons in the motor cortex of the nonhuman primate. These neurons fire to both execution and observation of specific types of actions. Researchers use this evidence to fuel investigations of a human...

We have developed a method to measure the mirror reflectivity of telescopes. While it is relatively easy to measure the local reflectivity of the mirror material, it is not so straightforward to measure the amount of light that it focuses in a spot of a given diameter. Our method is based on the use of a CCD camera that is fixed on the mirror dish structure and observes simultaneously part of t...
