a full scale physical model of a thin slab caster with a four-hole design submerged entry nozzle (sen) was constructed. on the basis of the dimensionless reynolds and froude similitude criteria, the fluid flow in a full-scale model is similar to that of the actual system and, hence, the data obtained from the water model can be applied to the actual system. in order to determine the optimum ope...

The casimir pressure on a non ideal conducting slab is calculated. Using a simple model for the conductivity according to which the slab is perfectly conducting at frequencies below plasma frequency ωp and perfectly transparent above such frequency, it is found that the vacuum pressure on each surface of the slab is h̄ω p 24πc which is finite without removal of any divergence.

Abstraction and slicing are both techniques for reducing the size of the state space to be inspected during verification. In the paper [1], we present a new model checking procedure for infinite-state concurrent systems that interleaves automatic abstraction refinement, which splits states according to new predicates obtained by Craig interpolation, with slicing, which removes irrelevant states...

A mathematical model of a continuous reheating furnace has been developed to identify the design and operating parameters that significantly affect furnace performance. In this study, the furnace is modeled 3 dimensionally and theMonte Carlomethod is used to find the overall absorption factor. The overall absorption factor is then used to calculate the energy balance for furnace walls, the gas,...

In this paper the effect of photonic band gap on the group velocity of reflected pulse from a dielectric slab doped with two-level or three-level atoms has been investigated. It is assumed that the slab is sandwiched between a uniform medium (like vacuum) and a one-dimensional photonic crystal. It is shown that the reflected pulse from the slab doped with two-level (three-level) atoms will be...

This paper investigates the characteristics of surface waves propagating on a grounded anisotropic dielectric slab. Distinct from the existing analyses that generally assume that the fields of surface wave uniformly distribute along the transverse direction of the infinitely large grounded slab, our method takes into account the field variations along the transverse direction of a finite-width ...

Slab-girder structures composed of steel girder and reinforced concrete slab are widely used in buildings and bridges in the world. Their advantages are largely based on the composite action through the shear connection between slab and girder. In order to assess the integrity of this kind of structures, numerous vibration-based damage identification methods have been proposed. In this study, a...

The morphology of the transition from flat to normal subduction in eastern central Mexico is explored using intraslab earthquakes recorded by temporary and permanent regional seismic arrays. Observations of a sharp transition in slab dip near the abrupt end of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt (TMVB) suggest a possible slab tear located within the subducted South Cocos plate. The eastern lateral ...

In the present work, failure of a snow slab is analyzed by accounting Normal mode criteria. The analysis has been extended to include residual stress into the model (in addition to body forces). Intensity of crack energy release rate, and displacement components have been derived and their values have been estimated. The obtained results have been compared with the existing snow slab failure mo...

In this thesis we deal with two geometric optimization problems: Minimizing Absolute Gaussian Curvatue Locally in Meshes and the Solution path of the Slab Support Vector Machine. In the first part, we show that given a polygon C in R it is in general algebraically hard to find a point in R3\C at which the absolute Gaussian curvature with respect to C is minimized. By algebraically hard we mean ...
