Motivated by recent analytical and numerical work on two-and three-dimensional convection with imposed spatial periodicity, we analyse three examples of bifurcations from a continuous group orbit of spatio-temporally symmetric periodic solutions of partial differential equations. Our approach is based on centre manifold reduction for maps, and is in the spirit of earlier work by Iooss (1986) on...

This paper is concerned with the existence and qualitative properties of transition fronts for spatially periodic reaction-diffusion equations with bistable nonlinearities. The notion of transition fronts connecting two stable steady states generalizes the standard notion of pulsating fronts. In this paper, we prove that the time-global solutions in the class of transition fronts share some com...

OBJECTIVES Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a common chronic disease of the upper airways and has considerable impact on quality of life. Topical delivery of drugs to the paranasal sinuses is challenging, therefore the rate of surgery is high. This study investigates the delivery efficiency of a pulsating aerosol in comparison to a nasal pump spray to the sinuses and the nose in healthy voluntee...

several approaches are available to reduce pulsating torque components in permanent magnet motors. one of the known techniques is stator tooth shape modifications. this paper presents an integrated algorithm applicable for tooth shape optimization of permanent magnet motors. this method focuses on the reduced basis technique, finite element analysis and taguchi method and is conducted on tooth ...

We review the basic concepts, present state of theoretical models, and the future prospects for theory and observations of pulsating stellar atmospheres. Our emphasis is on radially pulsating cool stars, which dynamic atmospheres provide a general example for the differences with standard static model atmospheres.

Asteroseismology of pulsating pre-main sequence (PMS) stars has the potential of testing the validity of current models of PMS structure and evolution. As a first step, a sufficiently large sample of pulsating PMS stars has to be established, which allows to select candidates optimally suited for a detailed asteroseismological analysis based on photometry from space or ground based network data.

Current models and observations of variability in HgMn stars disagree. We present here the models that argue for pulsating HgMn stars with properties similar to those of Slowly Pulsating B Stars. The lack of observed variable HgMn stars suggests that some physical process is missing from the models. Some possibilities are discussed.

A rigorous analysis of sound radiation by a pulsating sphere forming a resonator together with a semispherical cavity is presented. Both hard and soft boundaries are considered, as well as mixed. The problem is solved by dividing the entire region into two subregions, one surrounding the sphere and containing the cavity and the other for the remaining half-space. The continuity conditions are a...
