This paper compares two second-generation dynamic energy demand models, a translog Ž . Ž . TL and a general Leontief GL , in the study of price elasticities and factor substitutions of nine Swedish manufacturing industries: food, textiles, wood, paper, printing, chemicals, non-metallic minerals, base metals and machinery. Several model specifications are tested with likelihood ratio test. There...

The energy use increases rapidly due to growth in population, urbanization, and economic growth. Residential electricity consumption has an important place in the rapidly growing electricity consumption in India. Most of the studies that are carried out for energy planning in India, use macrolevel data for the estimation of price and income elasticities of electricity demand. The present study ...

The main objective of this paper is to contribute to the literature on employment-GDP elasticities by assessing the determinants of cross-country variations in employment elasticities, focusing particularly on the role of demographic and macroeconomic variables. Long-term employment– GDP elasticities are estimated using an unbalanced panel of 90 developing countries from 1991 to 2011 using a tw...

There is a widely discussed problem of publication bias in medical and health services research. Where quantitative effects form the basis of a publication a 'winner's curse' curse may apply. This phenomenon may occur as prospective authors of research papers compete by reporting 'more extreme and spectacular results' in order to increase the chances of their paper being accepted for publicatio...

A two-stage modeling process is developed to estimate factors that determine price sensitivities for store and national brands of cheese. Results show that several factors affect price sensitivities. AIDS and LA/AIDS models are used in the analyses and meta-regression results show no difference in own-price elasticities for these two models.

energy carriers including electricity play a critical role in human societies development, and as the time passes, their importance in the human socio-economic life rises. therefore, knowing electricity demand and the factors affecting on it could have an effective role in economic decision-making. while dividing electricity demand into different consuming sectors, this study uses economic vari...

This paper provides an empirical analysis of the effects of weight-based pricing in the collection of household waste. Using a comprehensive panel data set on all households in a Dutch municipality we estimate short-run as well as long-run price effects for the amounts of both compostable and non-recyclable household waste. We find significant and sizeable price effects, with the elasticity for...

Countries with significantly different development levels experience similar regulatory transformations in the telecommunications industry. While these changes may be particularly successful in lowering costs, they may also lead to lower consumer welfare in markets in which consumers are highly sensitive to price changes. This paper assessed whether price elasticities for telecommunications dem...

An LA/AIDS model is developed to estimate demand elasticities for packages of 8-oz shredded cheese for higherand lower-income consumers. Data used in this study are scanner data for six supermarket stores in two distinct socioeconomic areas. Results show that: (1) lower-income shoppers are more price-sensitive than higher-income shoppers for both private labels and national brands; (2) compared...

Perfect competition or Bertrand competition cause price to equal marginal cost, so that excise tax incidence can be illustrated with the most basic supply-demand diagram. Some results are: • excise taxes are shared by suppliers and demanders according to their relative price elasticities • holding revenue fixed, it doesn’t matter (for supply price, demand price, and quantity traded) whether the...
