BACKGROUND Mathematical formulas have been less than adequate in assessing the optimal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) level in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The objectives of the study were (1) to develop an artificial neural network (ANN) using demographic and anthropometric information to predict optimal CPAP level based on an overnight titration study and (2) to co...

a three-parameter cubic equation of state has been proposed for predicting pvt of pure refrigerantssuch as r236ea, r236fa, r245fa, r245ca, r218, r227ea, and r717, from freezing point up to critical pointtemperature and pressures up 650 atm. we explore the theory of the equation of state from the view pointof ihm–song–mason (ism) equation of state, which has been derived on the basis of statisti...

a literature review revealed that most of the empirical equations introduced for determination of the uniaxial compressive strength (ucs) of rocks based on the schmidt hammer rebound number (n) are not sufficiently reliable mostly due to the relatively low coefficient of correlations. this is attributed to the fact that in most cases one formula is used for all types of rocks, although...

A model equation for gravity-capillary waves in deep water is proposed. This model is a quadratic approximation of the deep water potential flow equations and has wavepacket-type solitary wave solutions. The model equation supports line solitary waves which are spatially localized in the direction of propagation and constant in the transverse direction, and lump solitary waves which are spatial...

INTRODUCTION The excess of visceral abdominal adipose tissue is one of the major concerns in obesity and its clinical treatment. OBJECTIVE To apply the two-dimensional predictive equation proposed by Garaulet et al. to determine the abdominal fat distribution and to compare the results with the body composition obtained by multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (M-BIA). SUBJECTS/M...

The general equation governing the mass, spin and angular momentum of a KerrNewman black hole applies equally well to a proton when the gravitational coupling constant predicted by a discrete fractal paradigm is used in the equation, along with the standard mass, spin and angular momentum of the proton. c © Electronic Journal of Theoretical Physics. A Monte Carlo experiment is undertaken to examine the small sample properties of three alternative estimators of a bivariate probit model with selection. The three estimators are the censored probit estimator, single-equation probit applied to the selected sub-sample and single-equation probit applied to the full sample. These estimators are compared in terms of properties of coefficient estima...

We present an implementation of Böhmer’s finite element method for fully nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations on convex polygonal domains, based on a modified Argyris element and BernsteinBézier techniques. Our numerical experiments for several test problems, involving the classical Monge-Ampère equation and an unconditionally elliptic equation, confirm the convergence and error bo...

Using Monte Carlo simulations we calculate fc, the fraction of nodes that are randomly removed before global connectivity is lost, for networks with scale-free and bimodal degree distributions. Our results differ from the results predicted by an equation for fc proposed by Cohen We discuss the reasons for this disagreement and clarify the domain for which the proposed equation is valid.

Cells respond to environmental stimuli with expression changes at both the mRNA and protein level, and a plethora of known and unknown regulators affect synthesis and degradation rates of the resulting proteins. To investigate the major principles of gene expression regulation in dynamic systems, we estimated protein synthesis and degradation rates from parallel time series data of mRNA and pro...
