We present data on the inclusive scattering of polarized electrons from a polarized 3He target at energies from 0.862 to 5.06 GeV, obtained at a scattering angle of 15.5 degrees. Our data include measurements from the quasielastic peak, through the nucleon resonance region, and beyond, and were used to determine the virtual photon cross-section difference sigma(1/2)-sigma(3/2). We extract the e...

Inelastic scattering of polarized intermediate energy nucleons to continuum nuclear states is discussed with emphasis on recent results. Spin momentum correlations of protons i n polarized targets of 3He were observed for the first time. Complete spin observables in (g$) show effects of the nuclear spin-isospin response and of an NN interaction modified by the nuclear medium. A comparison of Ga...

It is needless to say that I feel it a great honor and privilege to have been selected for the 2003 Nobel prize in physics for my theoretical work on superfluid 3He; I am particularly pleased to be sharing the award with Professors Ginzburg and Abrikosov, whom I have always looked up to as giants of the closely related fleld of superconductivity. The story of how, in roughly the twelve-month pe...

N. Mulders Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Delaware, 223 Sharp Laboratory, Newark, Delaware 19716 (Received 21 December 1998) Liquid 3He in 98%-porous aerogel simultaneously possesses properties of a disordered p-wave superfluid and an elastic solid. We have observed two sound modes of superfluid 3He in aerogel. The first (fast) sound is a compression wave, and the second (sl...

Within a phenomenological approach possible forms of the order parameter of the superfluid phases of 3He in a vicinity of the transition temperature are discussed. Effect of aerogel is described by a random tensor field interacting with the orbital part of the order parameter. With respect to their interaction with the random tensor field a group of ”robust” order parameters which can maintain ...

in this paper, at first we have formulated the lowest order constrained variational method for the relativistic case of an interacting fermion system at finite temperature. then we have used this formalism to calculate some thermodynamic properties of liquid in the relativistic regime. the results show that the difference between total energies of relativistic and non-relativistic cases of liqu...

The Vincent–Phatak procedure for solving the momentum-space Schrödinger equation with combined Coulomb-plus-short-range potentials is extended to angular momentum states coupled by an optical potential—as occurs in spin 1/2 × 1/2 scattering. A generalization of the Blatt–Biedenharn phase shift parameterization is derived and applied to 500 MeV polarized-proton scattering from 3He and 13C. The r...
