Pleural epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare malignancy of vascular-endothelial origin with non-specific symptoms and an unpredictable outcome. Diagnosis of this condition by imaging modalities is challenging, and no standard therapeutic approaches have been established in this regard. In this paper, we described the case of a patient with a low-grade fever, coughing and chest pain ...
Needle biopsy of the parietal pleura was undertaken in 64 patients with undiagnosed pleural effusion. An adequate specimen was obtained in 96% of procedures. This was diagnostic in 45% of those due to malignancy and in 50% of those due to tuberculosis. A second biopsy improved the combined diagnostic yield in these two diseases from 32% to 46%. Pleural fluid cytology was unhelpful in establishi...
Thoracoscopy is the most accurate yet most expensive tool for establishing the diagnosis of tuberculous (TB) pleurisy. However, most high TB-incidence regions have limited financial resources, lack the infrastructure needed for routine thoracoscopy and require an alternative, cost-effective diagnostic approach for pleural effusions. Altogether, 51 patients with undiagnosed exudative pleural eff...

A 19 year old man presented with fever and left pleural effusion. Biopsy of a subcutaneous nodule and bone marrow led to the diagnosis of idiopathic lobular panniculitis (Weber-Christian disease). Thoracoscopically guided biopsy of the visceral pleura also revealed panniculitis change in the pleural adipose tissue.
OBJECTIVE A risk of tumor seeding after percutaneous needle biopsy has been reported in various organs, including the lung. This study retrospectively evaluated the proportion of ipsilateral pleural recurrence after computed tomography-guided needle biopsy (CTNB) in p-stage I lung cancer patients. METHODS Of the 321 patients diagnosed with p-stage I lung cancer, 124 underwent CTNB before surg...
