patients with diabetes mellitus (dm), experience significant morbidity and mortality from microvascular retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy. hyperglycemia can induce diabetic complications through multiple pathways. activation of protein kinase c (pkc) by hyperglycemia is one of the pathways which causes diabetic complications. effect of nifedipine (a calcium channel blocker), and polymyxin...

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with prediabetes and can be treated by using a combination of metformin dietary modification. However, people often fail to adhere modifications become more dependent on pharmaceutical intervention, this affects the effectiveness drug. In study, we investigated effects rhenium (V) compound uracil-derived ligands health in diet-induced pred...

In rat hepatoma cells the synthetic glucocorticoid dexamethasone causes a 3-fold increase in the activity of the plasma membrane enzyme alkaline phosphodiesterase I (oligonucleat 5'-nucleotidohydrolase, EC 3.1.4.1). The data are consistent with an induction phenomenon mediated by the glucocorticoid receptor involved in tyrosine aminotransferase induction. The effect on alkaline phosphodiesteras...

Extracellular adenosine, a key regulator of physiology and immune cell function that is found at elevated levels in neonatal blood, is generated by phosphohydrolysis of adenine nucleotides released from cells and catabolized by deamination to inosine. Generation of adenosine monophosphate (AMP) in blood is driven by cell-associated enzymes, whereas conversion of AMP to adenosine is largely medi...

Activity of trypsin-like enzymes (ATLE) and gelatinases A and B were studied in the blood plasma and extracts from cardiac muscle, cerebral cortex and cerebellum of rats with cardiomyopathy caused by anthracycline antibiotic doxorubicin against the background of preventive application of corvitin and α-ketoglutarate. ATLE significantly increased in blood plasma and extracts from cerebral cortex...

A total of 245 strains of staphylococci isolated from various pathological specimens derived from cases of human infections was tested for staphylocoagulase activity. Test systems employing normal citrated rabbit plasma and the same substrate supplemented with inhibitors of thrombin and proteolytic enzymes (but not influencing the staphylocoagulase activity) were used for testing suspensions of...

Background: Alloxan is on of the xenobiotic agents which is classified as diabetogenic materials. Magnesium is an important cofactor regulating the activity of carbohydrate enzymes and lipid synthesis. In this study the contrasting effects of Alloxan and magnesium on plasma free fatty acids (FFA) in rats was investigated. Methods: Male mature rats were used as test models for the diabetes induc...

and inactive fractions, with RF values of 0.15 and 0.34. Sliced gels eluted into NaHPOJ KH2P04 buffer, pH7.0, over 24h at 4°C showed the latter band to be inactive and the former to contain fumarase activity. Addition of the inactive protein to the active enzyme caused complete inhibition of activity. Dialysis of the initial pooled inactive protein over 36h resulted in high fumarase activity in...

Cellular location of ganglioside-sialidase activity was determined in confluent hamster embryo fibroblasts transformed with herpes simplex virus type 2. Approximately equal specific activities of ganglioside-sialidase activity were found to be associated with the crude lysosomal and crude plasma membrane fractions isolated from whole cell homogenates. Whole transformed cells hydrolyzed exogenou...

Halothane and enflurane administration increased the plasma GSH-Px activity and reduced zinc levels. In addition, they lowered SOD and GSH-Px activities and trace element levels on erythrocytes. Isoflurane had no effect on plasma antioxidant enzymes, but, similar to the other, isoflurane decreased the plasma zinc levels, erythrocyte SOD and GSH-Px activities and trace element levels.
