This study investigated the photo-degradation of methyl orange (MO) as a type of azo dye using a CuO/α-Fe2O3 nanocomposite. A CuO/α-Fe2O3 powder with a crystalline size in the range of 27-49 nm was successfully prepared using simple co-precipitation along with a sonication method. The characterization of the synthesized sample was done via XRD, FE-SEM, EDS, FTIR and DRS analyses. The Tauc equat...

This paper is a definition of photo elicitation and a history of its development in anthropology and sociology. The view of photo elicitation in these disciplines, where the greatest number of photo elicitation studies have taken place, organizes photo elicitation studies by topic and by form. The paper also presents practical considerations from a frequent photo elicitation researcher and conc...

Low-order detonations of military munitions scatter cm-sized chunks of high-explosives onto military range soils, where rainfall can dissolve and then transport the explosives to groundwater. We present 1 year of mass-loss data obtained from cm-sized chunks of the frequently used explosives TNT (2,4,6-trinitrotoluene) and Tritonal (an 80:20 mixture of TNT and aluminum flakes) exposed outdoors t...

Canopy Gaps in an Upper Mississippi River floodplain plot were measured as part of a songbird nest-site selectivity study. Two methods of measuring floodplain forest canopy gaps were compared. One method used a ground crew to sweep the plot and record spatial and botanical information of canopy gaps > 10 meters in diameter. The second method used 1:15,000 scale color infrared stereoscopic aeria...

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is a chelating agent that has been used for decontamination purposes in nuclear industry. The presence of EDTA in decontamination wastes can cause complexation of the cations resulting into interferences in their removal by various treatment processes such as chemical precipitation, ion exchange etc. Further, it might also impart elevated leachability of c...

Similar in nature to an image mosaic, a photo-stencil is a rendering of a binary target image by an arrangement of smaller binary stencil images. This paper presents a method for efficiently creating photo-stencil images, making use of the Fast Fourier Transform to speed up costly computations. The resulting photo-stencils are a new and interesting form of nonphotorealistic rendering.

In-vehicle information systems (IVIS) should minimize the cognitive load on the drivers to reduce any risk of accidents. For that purpose we built an experiment in which two alternatives for information display are compared. One alternative is the traditional information display method of showing a map with the target route highlighted in red. This is compared against a proposed alternative for...

Sketch–photo synthesis plays an important role in sketch-based face photo retrieval and photo-based face sketch retrieval systems. In this paper, we propose an automatic sketch– photo synthesis and retrieval algorithm based on sparse representation. The proposed sketch–photo synthesis method works at patch level and is composed of two steps: sparse neighbor selection (SNS) for an initial estima...
