Fano resonances are features in absorption, scattering or transport spectra resulting from the interaction of discrete and continuum states. They have been observed in a variety of systems. Here, we report a many-body Fano resonance in bilayer graphene that is continuously tunable by means of electrical gating. Discrete phonons and continuous exciton (electron-hole pair) transitions are coupled...

Calculations of the A 1 phonon frequency in photoexcited tellurium are presented. The phonon frequency as a function of photoexcited carrier density and phonon amplitude is determined. Recent pump probe experiments are interpreted in the light of these calculatons. It is proposed that, in conjunction with measurements of the phonon period in ultra-fast pump-probe reflectivity experiments, the c...

We measure phonon dispersion and linewidth in a single crystal of MgB2 along the Gamma-A, Gamma-M, and A-L directions using inelastic x-ray scattering. We use density functional theory to compute the effect of both electron-phonon coupling and anharmonicity on the linewidth, obtaining excellent agreement with experiment. Anomalous broadening of the E(2g) phonon mode is found all along Gamma-A. ...

A model for calculating the lattice thermal conductivity in semiconductor thin films and nanowires is developed. It is based on the solution of phonon Boltzmann equation and takes into account phonon dispersion modification due to confinement effects and non-equilibrium phonon redistribution. Phonon spatial confinement at the structure boundaries leads to modification of the acoustic phonon dis...

The interaction of electron-hole pairs with lattice vibrations exhibits a wealth of intriguing physical phenomena such as the renowned Kohn anomaly. Here we report the observation in bilayer graphene of an unusual phonon softening that provides the first experimental proof for another type of phonon anomaly. Similar to the Kohn anomaly, which is a logarithmic singularity in the phonon group vel...

It has been found experimentally as well as theoretically that the lattice thermal conductivity can be largely reduced by the size confinement effect. The significant boundary scattering effect is one of the dominant factors. In most existing lattice thermal conductivity models, an empirical relation is used for this scattering rate. An unconfined or confined phonon distribution obtained based ...

Inelastic light scattering studies on a single crystal of electron-doped Ca(Fe0.95Co0.05)2As2 superconductor, covering the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural transition as well as the magnetic transition at TSM ∼ 140 K and the superconducting transition temperature Tc ∼ 23 K, reveal evidence for superconductivity-induced phonon renormalization. In particular, the phonon mode near 260 cm−1 sh...

The approach in a theory of collective excitations in hot nuclei exploring the formalism of thermo field dynamics and the model Hamiltonian consisting of a mean field, the BCS paring interaction and long-range particle-hole effective forces is reexamined. In contrast with earlier studies it is found that a wave function of a thermal phonon is depended not only on the Fermi-Dirac thermal occupat...

In the paper a combined experimental and theoretical investigation of the longitudinal optical phonon sidebands (PSBs) in the luminescence of free excitons in GaN at moderately high temperatures was reported. The spectral features, including line broadening, shift, and asymmetry of the one- and two-phonon PSBs, were revealed both experimentally and theoretically. It is found that the linewidth ...
