A straightforward theory is presented to accurately model the light inferences in a low-finesse multimode fiber extrinsic Fabry-Perot (FP) interferometer. The effect on the fringe visibility of the gap length, sensor structure imperfections, and modal power distributions is explored. The analysis is particularly useful in the design and optimization of sensors that use an extrinsic FP cavity as...

The current state of the problem of double-barred galaxies investigation is reviewed. The necessity for application of the panoramic spectroscopy methods to a detailed study of kinematics of these objects is being proved. The first results of observing double-barred galaxies at the 6m telescope using the multipupil spectrograph MPFS and the scanning interferometer Fabry-Perot are described.

We examine the question of coherent perfect absorption (CPA) of single photons, and more generally, of the quantum fields by a macroscopic medium. We show the CPA of path entangled single photons in a Fabry-Perot interferometer containing an absorptive medium. The frequency of perfect absorption can be controlled by changing the interferometer parameters like the reflectivity and the complex di...

VIRGO, a French-Italian collaboration located in Cascina (Pisa, Italy) aiming at the detection of gravitational waves, is a ground based power recycled Michelson interferometer, which arms are 3-km-long Fabry-Perot suspended cavities. The VIRGO first scientific data taking has started in mid may 2007 in coincidence with the corresponding American detectors. The optical scheme of the interferome...

The optical design of the Einstein Telescope (ET) is based on a dual-recycled Michelson interferometer with Fabry-Perot cavities in arms. ET will be constructed new infrastructure, allowing us to consider different technical implementations beyond constraints current facilities. In this paper we investigate feasibility using beam-expander telescopes We provide an example implementation that mat...

The quantum limits on measurements of small changes in the length of a Fabry-Perot cavity are calculated . The cavity is modelled by a pair of dissimilar mirrors oriented perpendicular to a one-dimensional axis of infinite extent . The continuous spectrum of spatial modes of the system is derived, and the electromagnetic field is quantized in terms of a continuous set of mode creation and destr...

The influence of angular mirror-orientation errors on the length of a Fabry-Perot resonator is analyzed geometrically. Under conditions in which dominant errors are static or vary slowly over time, the analysis permits a simple prediction of the spectrum of short-term cavity length fluctuations resulting from mirror-orientation noise. The resulting model is applicable to the design of mirror co...
