Our hypothesis states that variceal pressure and wall tension increase dramatically during esophageal peristaltic contractions. This increase in pressure and wall tension is a natural consequence of the anatomy and physiology of the esophagus and of the esophageal venous plexus. The purpose of this study was to evaluate variceal hemodynamics during peristaltic contraction. A simultaneous ultras...

We studied the opossum sphincter of Oddi (SO) because in this species the SO is approximately 3 cm in length and its extraduodenal location permits recording of motor activity with negligible interference from duodenal motor activity. The SO segment of 120 animals was evaluated by one or more of the following: (a) intraluminal manometry; (b) electromyography; (c) common bile duct (CBD) flow mon...

This article looks at the Soret and Dufour effects on the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) peristaltic flow of variable viscosity fluid in a symmetric channel. Analysis is presented in the presence of Ohmic heating. Results for the stream function, temperature and concentration are constructed. The variations of sundry parameters are analyzed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect an elastic wall on peristaltic flow Williamson fluid between two concentric cylinders, where inner tube cylindrical with inelastic and outer a regular sine wave. For problem, coordinates are used short wavelength relative channel width for its length, as well governing equations in Navier-Stokes equations. results evaluated using Mathematic...

We carry out the effect of the pulsatile flow on peristaltic motion of an incompressible conducting micropolar fluid through porous medium in a channel bounded by flexible walls.Problem formulation in a wave frame of reference is presented. An oscillatory time dependent flux is being imposed on the peristaltic flow. The non-linear equations governing the flow through porous medium under the eff...

PURPOSE To assess the efficacy of novel vitreous cutter blades compared with the regular guillotine by means of particle image velocimetry. Tested blades included a regular blade (RB) and newer designs where a circular (hole blade [HB]) or a slit aperture (slit blade [SB]) had been opened proximal to the cutting edge. METHODS Twenty-three-gauge probes were immersed in BSS or egg albumen, and ...

Utilizing an electronic–hydraulic analogy, this study develops an equivalent electrical network of a piezoelectric peristaltic micropump which has not been modeled the whole system operation completely by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or equivalent electrical network so far due to its excessive complicated structure. The validity of the proposed model is verified by comparing the simulatio...

In this paper, the results of laboratory investigation about the flow behind the sphere in the range of 150<Re<300 , where very interesting physical phenomenon occurs, are presented. After a first stationary transition where the flow breaks the axisymmetry, very controlled experiments allow one to define a threshold for the second transition from stationary to unstable flow, which includes thre...
