In this paper numerical modeling of fire development in a single compartment railway passenger car has been performed using the FDS software. The simulation was focused on dynamic calculation temperature field and heat release rate. Obtained results were compared with experimental satisfactory agreement detected. It can be concluded that used for simulating different scenarios cars.
OBJECTIVE Passenger cars often are at a disadvantage when colliding with light trucks (sport utility vehicles [SUVs] and pickups) due to differences in mass, vehicle structural alignment, and stiffness. In 2003, vehicle manufacturers agreed to voluntary measures to improve compatibility, especially in front-to-front and front-to-side crashes, with full adherence to be achieved by September 2009...
It is reported that the sound of a car door closing is one of the main factors to determine the overall impression of the car. Much effort has been made to improve the quality of this sound. In this study, sounds of the closing of the doors of various passenger cars were recorded and presented via headphones in a sound-proof room. Based on these sounds, German and Japanese groups of participant...
OBJECTIVES To compare national fatality rates for teen drivers by vehicle type. METHODS Fatality rates were calculated for 16- to 19-year-old drivers by vehicle type using data from the Fatal Analysis Reporting System (1999-2003) and estimates of miles driven from the National Household Transportation Survey (2001). Relative fatality risks for teen drivers of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) an...
The objective of this study is to investigate the determinants of mean trip distance traveled by different mode types. The study uses data from the Hamilton CMA in Canada, and multilevel models to investigate demographic aging factors, gender differentials, and neighbourhood attributes on distance traveled. The results of the study validate previous findings regarding the decline in distance tr...
OBJECTIVES Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of childhood fatality, making use of properly installed child passenger restraint system (CRS) a public health priority. Motor vehicle crashes in rural environments are associated with increased injuries and fatalities, and overall CRS use tends to be lower compared with urban populations. However, it remains unclear if proper installation ...
An inverted-U relationship between GDP per capita and three urban transport-related emissions is tested (using data from 84 cities). Per capita urban transport-related emissions of CO, VHC, and NOx increase and then decline at observed income levels—a result driven by a similar inverted-U relationship between income and emissions technology (i.e., emissions per passengerkm). However, for urban ...
