While operating a crane for maximum productivity, the time of operation and the required energy are two important conflicting factors faced by a crane operator. In such a case, trying to reach the destination too quickly demands a large energy supply, while a small powered motion requires longer time. In this paper, we consider such a problem for two different pairs of objectives and employ a m...

Receiver operating characteristic curve is a standard method for reporting performance of a system. In this paper we show how to choose the optimal operating point when we are given a receiver operating curve, the prior probabilities, and the economic gain matrix. Unlike earlier methods, we make no assumptions regarding underlying distributions.

The Genetically Optimized Neural Network System (GONNS) is proposed as a human-like decision-making tool for the selection of optimum composite material and operating conditions. Multiple neural networks represent the characteristics of the system after a training process and genetic algorithms find the optimum operating conditions. The error of the GONNS was found to be less than 1% when the n...

In this paper, the performance of morphological dynamic link architecture (MDLA) is assessed under optimal and real operating conditions. It is shown that MDLA achieves a very low equal error rate on the extended M2VTS database which contains 295 persons’ video data in 8 shots recorded under optimal conditions. However, its performance severely deteriorates, when it is applied to the IBERMATICA...

supersonic separators have found extensive applications in dehumidification of natural gases since 2003. unlike previous studies, which have investigated the inlet conditions and nozzle geometry of supersonic separators for pure fluids, the present study employed a combination of momentum, heat, and mass transfer equations along with virial equation of state (eos) to inspect the effect of inlet...

The optimization of the epoxy polymerization process involves a number of con icting objectives and more than twenty decision parameters. In this paper, the problem is treated truly as a multiobjective optimization problem and near-Pareto-optimal solutions corresponding to two and three objectives are found using the elitist nondominated sorting GA or NSGA-II. Objectives, such as the number ave...

A comprehensive and global sensitivity analysis was conducted under a range of operating conditions. The relative importance of mass transfer resistance versus kinetic parameters was studied and found to depend on the operating regime as follows: Operating under the optimal loading ratio of 1.90(gO(2)/m(3)/d)/(gN/m(3)/d), the system was influenced by mass transfer (10% impact on nitrogen remova...
