The title complex, [Co(CO(3))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)]Br·3H(2)O, is isostructural with the chloride analogue. The six-coordinated octahedral [Co(2,2'-bipy)(2)CO(3)](+) cation (2,2'-bipy is 2,2'-bipyrid-yl), bromide ion and water mol-ecules are linked together via O-H⋯Br and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating a one-dimensional chain.

The mononuclear Pd(ii) complex cis-[PdCl(2)([9]aneS(3))]([9]aneS(3)= 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane) converts at 44 kbar pressure into an intensely coloured chain polymer, which exhibits distorted octahedral co-ordination at the metal centre and an unprecedented [1233] conformation for the thioether crown.

A sulfate-encapsulating complex, [Cu(1)L(6)]·3[Cu(2)L(2)(DMF)(4)](SO(4))(4) (1, L = N-(1-naphthyl)-N'-(3-pyridyl)urea) is synthesized in which two C(3)-clefts of the octahedral complexes interdigitate to form a cavity to encapsulate the sulfate ion by six urea groups.

In the centrosymmetric dinuclear title Cu(II) complex, [Cu2(C7H4ClO2)(C2H5OH)2], the Cu-Cu distance is 2.5905 (4) Å. The two metal atoms are bridged by four 4-chloro-benzoate ligands and each has an ethanol mol-ecule in the axial position of the overall octahedral coordination environment. The crystal packing features O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

An octahedral bis-cyclometalated iridium(III) complex catalyzes the enantioselective α-amination of aldehydes with catalyst loadings down to 0.1 mol%. In this metal-templated design, the metal serves as a structural center and provides the exclusive source of chirality, whereas the catalysis is mediated through the organic ligand sphere.
