Retroperitoneal fibrosis or Ormand's disease is rare in incidence and clinically elusive to diagnosis until obstructive uropathy clinically manifests by the mechanism of ureteral fibrotic strangulation and acute renal failure. We encountered a 50-year-old woman with months of nonspecific abdominal pain and presented with signs and symptoms of acute renal failure. Laboratory data was significant...
Hydronephrosis is a rare complication of acute appendicitis. We present a case of missed appendicitis in a 52-year-old female which presented as a right-sided hydronephrosis. 2 days after admission to the Department of Urology CT revealed acute appendicitis for what open appendectomy was performed. Acute appendicitis can lead to obstructive uropathy by periappendiceal inflammation due to adjace...
OBJECTIVE Prenatal diagnosis of urinomas has long been established with underlying obstructive uropathy generally responsible for urinary extravasation. Because urinoma formation represents a pop-off mechanism in cases of posterior urethral valves, the number of affected males greatly exceeds the number of females. Fetal urinoma has rarely been reported without obstruction and in females it has...
Μalakoplakia is a rare inflammatory condition of the urogenital tract. The most frequently affected organ is urinary bladder. This condition has features of a granulomatous inflammation, the pathogenesis of which is not well understood. In this study, we presented a case of urinary bladder malakoplakia associated with advanced obstructive uropathy and renal failure.
Pyometrocolpos resulting from congenital obstructing lesions can present during early childhood and adolescence with varying signs and symptoms. Children with pyometrocolpos due to distal vaginal obstruction may present as acutely ill with obstructive uropathy and septicaemia. We present a case of a two year old girl with pyometrocolpos in whom drainage under anaesthesia lead to marked improvem...
Etiology: CKD is the terminal stage of chronic progressive nephropathies which include: 1. Glomerular nephropathies: severe glomerulonephritis (80% of CKD cases) diabetic nephropathy renal amyloidosis 2. Renal vascular nephropathies: malignant hypertension hypertension nephroangiosclerosis bilateral renal artery sclerosis 3. Tubulointerstitial nephropathies chronic pyelonephriti...
Acute urinary retention secondary to vasculitic penile swelling in children is extremely rare. Henoch-Schönlein purpura is a self-limiting IgA-mediated cutaneous vasculitis, which can cause soft tissue edema. Acute urinary retention requires urgent intervention to prevent obstructive uropathy. Suprapubic catheterization provides an effective management strategy in the emergency setting.
We report a case of acute renal failure as a result of obstructive uropathy as a consequence of instillation of phenol used for chemical sympathectomy in Beurger's disease of the lower limbs. Extensive bilateral ureteral necrosis occurred as a result of phenol instillation that. Such practices are still common among the general surgeons and such a complication has not been described before.
Four cases of a form of obstructive uropathy previously unreported in children are described. All presented with oligoanuria and either flank pain or fluid retention and had evidence of crystalline sludge in their lower ureters. Three cases had an underlying crystalluria.
