Specimens were obtained from the 3 Malagasy fruit bats, Pteropus rufus, Eidolon dupreanum, and Rousettus madagascariensis. Antibodies against Nipah, Hendra, and Tioman viruses were detected by immunoassay in 23 and by serum neutralization tests in 3 of 427 serum samples, which suggests that related viruses have circulated in Madagascar.

Equine antisera to human adenovirus types 1 to 33 were prepared and evaluated by hemagglutination-inhibition and serum neutralization tests. Detailed data on the potency and purity of the immunizing antigens were tabulated as one means of evaluating the antisera. Most of the 52 hemagglutination-inhibition and 25 serum neutralization major or minor heterotypic responses among the equine antisera...

EU Regulation 998/2003 requires the serological testing of rabies-vaccinated dogs and cats in approved laboratories using serum neutralization tests prior to movement of pet animals between certain EU member states and before pet animals are imported from unlisted third countries. Serum neutralisation tests are also used for measuring the efficacy of oral rabies vaccination programmes conducted...

ABSTRACT: Degumming and neutralization processes are two essential stages carried out on crude edible oils in order to remove some unwanted impurities namely gums and free fatty acids. In this research study two popular less expensive commercial oils that are consumed to a great extent namely soyabean and sunflower seed oils are selected and subjected to both degumming and neutralization proces...

Immunoglobulin G in human serum neutralizes chlamydial infectivity in vitro. Complement-intact, C5-depleted, and C8-depleted human serum all have significantly more neutralizing activity than serum heated to inactivate early components of complement. Cobra venom factor, an analog of human C3b, enhances neutralization of antichlamydial immunoglobulin G in the absence of early complement components.

background and aims: herpes simplex virus type 1 (hsv1) remains a potentially serious health problem world wide. all infected people, including asymptomatic ones, are potential sources for virus transmission. virus envelope contains at least 13 glycoproteins, which glycoprotein d is the major target of immune responses. the aim of this study was development of a specific method that is a more r...

Programmed cell death (PCD) is a key phenomenon in the regulation of cell number in multicellular organisms. We have shown that reduction of endogenous transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) prevents apoptotic PCD of neurons in the developing peripheral and central nervous system, suggesting that TGF-beta is an important mediator of ontogenetic neuron death. Previous studies suggested that ...

The success of solid tumor growth and metastasis is dependent upon angiogenesis. Neovascularization within the tumor is regulated, in part, by a dual and opposing system of angiogenic and angiostatic factors. We now report that IP-10, a recently described angiostatic factor, as a potent angiostatic factor that regulates non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)-derived angiogenesis, tumor growth, and ...

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a common complication and sometimes a prognostic factor of connective tissue diseases (CTDs) in humans. However, suitable animal model of severe CTD-associated ILD (CTD-ILD) has been limited. In this study, we showed that zymosan-treated SKG mice developed not only arthritis but also chronic-progressive ILD with high mortality over several months. The patholog...

OBJECTIVE An increased risk of tuberculosis has been documented in humans treated with tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha)-neutralizing agents. In murine models, impaired signaling by TNF causes exacerbation of both acute and chronic infection associated with aberrant granuloma formation and maintenance. This study was undertaken to investigate immune modulation in the setting of TNF neutral...
