Predation at the microbial level can affect the fate of toxic trace metals. Metals associated with bacterial prey can be released into the dissolved phase following digestion by a predator, and/or metals can remain in the predator and be transferred potentially to the next level of the food chain. Toxic metal ions in the aqueous phase also are expected to modify the growth and predation rate of...

Monazite grains from Greater Himalayan Sequence gneisses, Langtang valley, Nepal, were chemically mapped and then dated in situ via Th–Pb ion-microprobe analysis. Correlation of ages and chemistry reveals at least five different generations of monazite, ranging from c. 9 to >300 Ma. Petrological models of monazite chemistry provide a link between these generations and the thermal evolution of t...

This paper deals with adsorption of Pb and Hg on the exopolysaccharide produced by Azotobacter chroococcum XU1. The adsorption of metal ions was significantly affected by the pH of metal solutions (Pb(NO3)2 and Hg(NO3)2), metal ions concentration and exopolysaccharide concentrations. At optimum pH the uptakes of the metals were 40.48% and 47.87% respectively. The metal ions biosorption was high...

Polarized Raman, IR, and time-domain THz spectroscopy of orthorhombic lead zirconate single crystals have yielded a comprehensive picture of temperature-dependent quasiharmonic frequencies of its low-frequency phonon modes. It is argued that these modes primarily involve vibrations of Pb ions and librations of oxygen octahedra. Their relation to phonon modes of the parent cubic phase is propose...

A promising strategy for the controlled synthesis of inorganic/polymeric nanocomposites may be sustained by fabricating cross-linked PbS nanoparticles/polymer composite thin films through combining surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and gas/solid reaction. The introduction of Pb ions through the extension of surface-initiated ATRP to the monomers containing metal ions...

The angular substructures of particles produced in Pb at 158 A GeV/c and Au at 11.6 A GeV/c induced interactions with Ag(Br) nuclei in emulsion detector have been investigated. Nonstatistical ring-like substructures of produced particles in azimuthal plane of a collision have been found and their parameters have been determined.

Background: Water pollution is an important environmental problem, undoubtedly, the presence of toxic heavy metals forms the main source of water contamination. Sorption characteristics of polyurethane foams modified with bis (2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (DEHPA) for the removal of zinc, lead and cadmium ions from contaminated solutions were investigated. Methods: Operating variables, such as ...

in this paper a chemical deposition procedure for the preparation of lead sulfide thin film ispresented. the details of the preparation method are described. the influence of hydrazine hydrate onthe microstructure and deposition rate of lead sulfide thin film has been investigated. the concentrationof the lead ions in the deposition bath decreases more slowly when the hydrazine hydrate is added...

Background: Removal of heavy metal ions from contaminated systems by agricultural and fruit and vegetable processing waste materials is an innovative and auspicious technology .The current study was designed for utilization of bio-adsorption white hard eggshell, as less expensive and much frequently available food waste materials, due to prospective metal bio-sorption capacity to toxic heavy me...

An on-line system for enrichment and determination of lead(II) is presented. It is based on the adsorption of lead(II) ions on a minicolumn packed with active carbon loaded with Pyrogallol Red. After preconcentration step, the metal ions are eluted automatically by 5.0 ml of 0.50 M nitric acid solution and the lead ion contents were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. The influence of...
