The nucleotide sequence of pKP1433 (55,417 bp), a blaKPC-2-carrying plasmid from Klebsiella pneumoniae sequence type 340, was determined. pKP1433 displayed extensive sequence and structural similarities with the IncN plasmids possessing the KPC-2-encoding Tn4401b isoform. However, the replication, partitioning, and stability of pKP1433 were determined by sequences related to diverse non-IncN pl...
Multiplex-PCR assay for identification of Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates carrying gene clusters for biosynthesis of capsular polysaccharide (CPS) types K1 and K2 was developed. Genes wzc and orf10 of the cps cluster were applied as K1 and K2 specific markers respectively. The assay specificity was confirmed using 147 isolates of Klebsiella spp. including 77 K-antigen reference strains. The mult...
We present the draft genome sequence of a blood culture isolate of OXA-48-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (sequence type 11 [ST11]) obtained in the course of a hospital outbreak in Spain. Sequence analysis showed 121 genes related to antibiotic and antiseptic resistance, including blaOXA-48, which was located in an IncL/M plasmid.
A novel series of various 2-hydroxypyrrolidine/piperidine derivatives were synthesized and their antibacterial activity against MTCC bacterial strains, anticancer activity and larvicidal effects were studied. Among the ten synthesized compounds, three were found to be antibacterial in nature. All the five test strains were highly sensitive to 1-(quinolin-3-yl) pyrrolidin-2-ol (P7), moderately s...
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a nosocomial pathogen of emerging importance and displays resistance to broad-spectrum antibiotics, such as carbapenems. Here, we report the genome sequences of five clinical K. pneumoniae isolates, four of which are carbapenem resistant. Carbapenem resistance is conferred by hydrolyzing class A β-lactamases found adjacent to transposases.
A rapid bioassay for gentamicin levels in serum was developed by using a strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae that has multiple resistance to antibiotics. Assays were comparable when performed on either small or large petri plates, and results were available in 2 to 4 h. Studies showed an overall recovery of 97.6% for gentamicin alone or 104.5% in the presence of commonly used antibiotics. The proce...
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a nosocomial pathogen with clinical importance due to its increasing resistance to carbapenems and colistin. Here, we report the genome sequences of eight colistin-resistant K. pneumoniae strains which might help in understanding the molecular mechanism of the species. The sequence data indicate genomes of ~5.2 to 5.4 Mb, along with several plasmids.
Dear Editor, Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) is one of the most important causes of healthcare-associated infections, especially among hospitalized patients [1]. Since most clinical isolates of K. pneumoniae are resistant to fluoroquinolones and carbapenems, clinicians have to use tigecycline as the last resort. Unfortunately, the prevalence of tigecycline-resistant K. pneumoniae seems to...
Multidrug-resistant New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase 1 (NDM-1)-producing bacteria have spread globally and become a major clinical and public health threat. We report here the draft genome sequence of the Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical isolate 303K, harboring an NDM-1 coding sequence.
We report genome sequences of two NDM-1 metallo-β-lactamase-producing multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates of sequence type 147 (ST147) from one hospital. The genomes are highly similar and differ in prophage located in the chromosome of K. pneumoniae KPB-1470/16 and in the additional plasmid-carrying blaOXA-48 gene in K. pneumoniae KPB-417/16.
