Atelerix albiventris and Hystrix javanica are currently traded as pets or consumed in Indonesia, but there has been no research about bacteria from the vulva swab before. This aims to isolate identify swabs of , their antibiotic susceptibility. Samples were isolated by blood agar plates selective media identified biochemical tests. Kirby Bauer’s disk diffusion method was used for antimicrobial ...

Recombination between two different deletion alleles of a gene (neo) for neomycin and kanamycin resistance was studied in an Escherichia coli sbcA- recB-C- strain. The two homologous regions were in an inverted orientation on the same plasmid molecule. Kanamycin-resistant plasmids were selected and analyzed. The rate of recombination to form kanamycin-resistant plasmids was decreased by mutatio...

OBJECTIVES Kanamycin is an important second-line drug used to treat multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis (TB). Molecular analysis of the rrs gene seems to be not enough to identify every case of kanamycin resistance. In the present study we evaluated the incidence of eis mutations in kanamycin-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates. METHODS We analysed 70 MDR M. tuberculosis clinical...

With a sharp increase in the cases of multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacteria all over the world, there is a huge demand to develop a new generation of antibiotic agents to fight them. As an alternative to the traditional drug discovery route, we have designed an effective antibacterial agent by modifying an existing commercial antibiotic, kanamycin, conjugated on the surface of gold nanoparticles ...

Purpose: To evaluate the in vitro effects of combining kanamycin and metronidazole against resistant bacteria. Methods: The influence of combining kanamycin and metronidazole against Gram-positive and Gramnegative bacteria was assessed by agar diffusion, checkerboard and time-kill assays. Results: The test isolates were highly resistant, with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranging betwe...

Recent reports have indicated that small RNAs have key roles in the response of the E.coli to stress and also in the regulating of virulence factors. It seems that some small non-coding RNAs are involved in multidrug resistance. Previous studies have indicated that rprA can increase the tolerance to Kanamycin in RcsB-deficient Escherichia coli K-12 following osmotic shock. The current study aim...

OBJECTIVES From our previous study about the weak expressions of potassium-chloride (KCC2) and sodium-potassium-2 chloride (NKCC1) co-transporters in the lateral superior olive (LSO) in circling mice, we hypothesized that partially damaged cochlea of circling mice might be a cause of the weak expressions of KCC2 or NKCC1. To test this possibility, we reproduced the altered expressions of KCC2 a...

The country of Georgia has a high burden of multi- and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB). To evaluate whether mutations in gyrB and eis genes increased the sensitivity of detection of phenotypic resistance to ofloxacin and kanamycin or capreomycin compared to use of the first-generation MTBDRsl assay alone, which tests for mutations in gyrA and rrs genes, a retrospective study of...

UNLABELLED Caldicellulosiruptor bescii, an anaerobic Gram-positive bacterium with an optimal growth temperature of 78°C, is the most thermophilic cellulose degrader known. It is of great biotechnological interest, as it efficiently deconstructs nonpretreated lignocellulosic plant biomass. Currently, its genetic manipulation relies on a mutant uracil auxotrophic background strain that contains a...

It is generally thought that there is full cross-resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis between the aminoglycoside drugs kanamycin and amikacin. However, kanamycin resistance and amikacin susceptibility were seen in 43 of 79 (54%) multidrug-resistant Estonian isolates, indicating that there might be a need to test the resistance of M. tuberculosis isolates to both drugs.
