Over the past few decades, there has been a growing interest in modelling of machining processes. In this regard, smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) is one of the latest methods used for that purpose. SPH is a powerful technique that can be used in handling problems of large deformation that are difficult to be tackled using traditional finite element methods. The current work aims to presen...

We ascertain the effect of thermal conducive on the initiation and growth of shear bands in a structural steel by analyzing the development of shear bands in a block undergoing overall adiabatic simple shearing deformations. The material of the block is assumed to exhibit strain and strain-rate hardening, and thermal softening. Three constitutive relations, namely, the Litonski law, the Bodner-...

In this paper, we develop a methodology to determine flow stress at the machining regimes and friction characteristics at the tool-chip interface from the results of orthogonal cutting tests. We utilize metal cutting analysis originally developed by late Oxley and present some improvements. We also evaluate several temperature models in calculating the average temperatures at primary and second...

Extraction of the material stress-strain curve from a dynamic tensile or shear experiment is not straightforward. Indeed, stress and strain are not homogeneously distributed in the specimen, and consequently no one-one relation exists between the measured elongation and strain on one hand, and the measured force and stress on the other hand. This work aims at improving the accuracy of the stres...

Influence of the constitutive flow law in FEM simulation of the Radial forging process. OATAO is an open access repository that collects the work of Toulouse researchers and makes it freely available over the web where possible. Radial forging is a widely used forming process for manufacturing hollow products in transport industry. As the deformation of the workpiece, during the process, is a c...

The strain rate effect of reinforcing steel bars is generally indispensable for modeling the dynamic responses of reinforced concrete structures in blast and impact events. A systematic experimental investigation was conducted on the strain rate behavior of reinforcing steel bar grades HPB235, HRB335, HRB400, and HRB500 which are widely used in the field of civil engineering in China. The dynam...

A numerical investigation is conducted on a rotating engine blade subjected to bird strike impact. The numerically modelled as cylindrical gelatine with hemispherical ends simulate impact blade. Numerical modelling of has shown that strikes can severely damage an blade, especially the rotates, rotation causes initial stresses root This paper presents blades porosity implemented investigate furt...

The estimation of damage in steel tendons is important for evaluating the remaining capacity existing tensioned members. This research focuses on calculating Johnson–Cook (LC) model and parameters high-strength material through quasi-static dynamic uniaxial tests. Finite element analysis used to replicate experimental procedure, image correlation analysis, numerical results accuracy verified. I...

Inverse model calibration for identifying the constitutive parameters can be computationally demanding expensive-to-evaluate simulation models. This paper presents a modified Bayesian optimization (BO) method, denoted as BO-bound, that incorporates theoretical bounds on quantity of interest. A case study inverse Johnson Cook (J-C) flow stress is presented using machining (cutting) force data. T...

We prove an additional result on the linearized Cahn-HilliardCook equation to fill in a gap in the main argument in our paper which was published in SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 49 (2011), 2407–2429. The result is a pathwise error estimate, which is proved by an application of the factorization argument for stochastic convolutions.
