Laminar mixed convection of Aluminium oxide (Al2O3)–water nanofluid flow in an inclined annulus using a single-phase approach was numerically studied. Constant heat flux boundary conditions were applied on the inner and outer walls. All the thermophysical properties of nanofluid, such as, viscosity, heat capacity, thermal conductivity, and thermal expansion coefficient, except density in the bo...

One of the applications of ergonomics disciplinary is designing driver workstation compatible to users' characteristics. The aim of this study was evaluation of interior design of Shoka vehicle with respect to the accommodation for Iranian population and proposing suggestions for customizing design of this vehicle. This study was a descriptive-analytical study conducted among thirty men from Ir...

This paper presents a proof of Preissman’s Theorem, a theorem from the study of Riemannian Geometry that imposes restrictions on the fundamental group of compact, negatively curved spaces. This particular proof presented hinges upon the notion that, in a negatively curved space, the interior angles of triangles add up to less than π.

For convex quadrilateral elements and 1 ≤ p, the usual W 1,p error estimate for the Q1 isoparametric Lagrange interpolation, called hereafter Q, reads ‖u−Qu‖Lp(K) + h|u−Qu|1,p,K ≤ Ch|u|2,p,K (1) where h denotes the diameter of K. Two facts, about (1), are well known: the convexity of K is a sufficient condition to get the estimate ‖u−Qu‖Lp(K) ≤ Ch|u|2,p,K with C bounded independently on the sha...

SomeAVHRR® re detection studies have excluded pixels that exceeded an arbitrary scan angle. This exclusion seems to be based on the distortion of pixels at high scan angles and the well-documented e€ ects of scan angle on the Normalized Di€ erence Vegetation Index. However, excluding high scan angle pixels reduces the temporal resolution of an AVHRR ® re detection system, especially at high lat...

Equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) combined with the Conform process provides a solution for the continuous production of ultrafine-grained materials. In the present study finite element method was executed to investigate the effects of die channel angle and friction on the strain homogeneity and the required torque in ECAP-Conform process. Deformation behaviour of Al 6061 wires was analyzed...

Force information from needle insertions was measured and modeled for use in robot-assisted percutaneous therapies. Data was collected on bovine livers using the Johns Hopkins University Steady Hand Robot, and modeled in three parts: force due to capsule stiffness, friction, and cutting. Capsule stiffness is modeled by a nonlinear spring model, friction by a modified Karnopp model, and cutting ...

Individual variation of larynx position reflects human morphological differences and thus contributes to generating biological information in speech sounds. This study examines the factors of orofacial morphology that co-vary with larynx position based on MRI data collected for 12 Japanese and 12 English speakers. The materials are midsagittal craniofacial images, and the method is based on the...

menelaus’ sphaerica can be considered as the most important classical text in the tradition of spherics books, written with the aim of the solution of problems arising in spherical astonomy. euclid’s elements is the the most important book on plane geometry. this article aims at a comparative study of menelaus’s sphaerica and euclid’s elements, to show that book i of sphaerica is an attempt to ...

This paper presents a systematic approach to generate walking primitive databases for anthropomorphic 3D–bipeds allowing step length adaptation, direction changes and stepping over obstacles. The individual walking primitives are derived by optimal control techniques. Zero moment point (ZMP) and friction conditions at the feet ensuring postural stability of the biped, as well as bounds on the j...
