It has been suggested that translocations, and perhaps other chromosome rearrangements, disturb meiotic disjunction of uninvolved chromosome pairs and predispose to trisomic offspring. If so, then one would expect an excess of translocations not involving chromosome 21 among the parents of regular trisomic Down's syndrome patients. Such translocations have been reported, but mostly as anecdotal...

The expression of a single odorant receptor (OR) gene from a large gene family in individual sensory neurons is an essential feature of the organization and function of the olfactory system. We have used chromosome conformation capture to demonstrate the specific association of an enhancer element, H, on chromosome 14 with multiple OR gene promoters on different chromosomes. DNA and RNA fluores...

The paper provides a short review of blackfly cytogenetics. The most important characters of blackfly karyotypes, such as centromeres, puffs, Balbiani rings, nucleoli, sex-chromosome determining systems and B-chromosomes are considered. Interchromosomal homozygous translocations and a tandem fusion of polytene chromosomes are described. Evolutionary trends in karyotypic changes are discussed.

Phaius tankervilleae and amboinensis orchids are decorative that have high ornamental value classified as endangered plants. Genetic information from the P. will be useful for plant breeders to develop a strategy in improvement program. The aim of study was determine karyotype pattern orchids. Chromosomes obtained meristematic root tips each species were used construct idiogram squash method. r...
