The need to calculate local system cohomolgy of the complement of an hyperplane arrangement arises in various contexts. Nevertheless until now very few it’s known on the direct computation of such cohomology. In this paper the author describes all generators of the first homology group of braid arrangement giving also a complete description of its first characteristic variety, fulfilling result...

We study the topology of the boundary manifold of a regular neighborhood of a complex projective hypersurface. We show that, under certain Hodge theoretic conditions, the cohomology ring of the complement of the hypersurface functorially determines that of the boundary. When the hypersurface defines a hyperplane arrangement, the cohomology of the boundary is completely determined by the combina...

The integer cohomology algebra of the complement of a complex subspace arrangement with geometric intersection lattice is completely determined by the combinatorial data of the arrangement. We give a combinatorial presentation of the cohomology algebra in the spirit of the Orlik-Solomon result on the cohomology algebras of complex hyperplane arrangements. Our methods are elementary: we work wit...

In a recent paper, Dimca and Némethi pose the problem of finding a homogeneous polynomial f such that the homology of the complement of the hypersurface defined by f is torsion-free, but the homology of the Milnor fiber of f has torsion. We prove that this is indeed possible, and show by construction that, for each prime p , there is a polynomial with p-torsion in the homology of the Milnor fib...

Hyperplane arrangements are very interesting combinatorial objects and many results can be found in the literature. For instance, several papers [1, 2, 6, 7] are concerned with the characteristic polynomials and the number of regions of a hyperplane arrangement. In his paper [9], Stanley reviewed various hyperplane arrangements raising interesting questions, one of which is related to the follo...

We construct two combinatorially equivalent line arrangements in the complex projective plane such that the fundamental groups of their complements are not isomorphic. In the proof we use a new invariant of the fundamental group of the complement of a line arrangement with prescribed combinatorial type with respect to isomorphisms inducing the canonical isomorphism of first homology groups.

Convex-concave sets and Arnold hypothesis. The notion of convexity is usually defined for subsets of affine spaces, but it can be generalized for subsets of projective spaces. Namely, a subset of a projective space RP is called convex if it doesn’t intersect some hyperplane L ⊂ RP and is convex in the affine space RP \L. In the very definition of the convex subset of a projective space appears ...
