The venoms from central Asian snakes (Echis carinatus, Echis multisquamatus, Vipera ursini, Vipera lebetina, Agkistrodon halys halys and Naja naja oxiana) contain several enzymes with amidolytic- and procoagulant activity. We have characterized the activities and the mol. wts of the venom enzymes that are able to convert a number of commercially available chromogenic substrates for activated co...

Summary measures of population health that incorporate morbidity provide a new perspective for health policy and priority setting. Health-adjusted life years (HALYs) lost to a disease combine the impact of years of life lost to premature mortality and morbidity, measured as year-equivalents lost to reduced functioning. HALYs for 25 cancers were estimated from mortality and incidence in 2001 in ...

The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys (Stål, 1855) (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) is recorded for the first time from Hungary. The circumstances of finding this species and a detailed description of both male and female genitalia are given. The currently known distribution, biology and significance of the species are briefly reviewed.

C-type lectin-like proteins (CTLPs) isolated from snake venoms are the largest and most complex non-mammalian vertebrate C-type lectin-like domain family. In the present study, we simultaneously amplified four cDNAs encoding different types of CTLP subunits from the venoms of two different species of snakes by RT-PCR with a single sense primer and a nested universal primer - two CTLP subunit-en...

BACKGROUND Cutaneous leishmaniasis due to Leishmania major is a serious and increasing problem affecting many rural areas of 17 out of 31 provinces in Iran. Little is known about sand fly fauna and leishmaniases in Eastern Iran and no study has been carried out in Sarbisheh County. The aim of this study was to determine sand flies composition and probable Leishmania infection to find the probab...

Diagnosis, circumscription, species-level taxonomy and geographical occurrence of the genus Clinopodes C. L. Koch, 1847 (Chilopoda, Geophilomorpha, Geophilidae) are revised by integrating published information with new evidence on its morphological diversity. Clinopodes is clearly distinguishable from all other geophilid lineages by a combination of features mainly in the forcipular segment, th...

We report the genome sequence of a novel iflavirus recovered from the transcriptome of a colony of the brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys. The genome is 9,263 nucleotides (nt) and contains an open reading frame (ORF) encoding a 3,017-amino-acid polyprotein.

The quality of hosts for a parasitoid wasp may be influenced by attributes such as host size or species, with high successful development usually coincident larger offspring. This is not always the case: Scelionid Trissolcus basalis, oviposition in eggs Brown Marmorated Stink Bug, Halyomorpha halys, rather than normal host, Southern Green Nezara viridula, leads to lower offspring survival, but ...
