A clinical study was undertaken to determine the incidence of the dumping syndrome following partial gastrectomy and Roux-en-y gastrojejunostomy. Twenty-three patients were scored according to a clinical diagnostic index. There were no dumpers identified. A theoretical explanation for these findings is offered. A Roux-en-y conversion should be considered for patients with disabling dumping symp...

Jejunogastric intussusception (JGI) is a rare life-threatening complication of gastrectomy or gastrojejunostomy. Diagnosis of this condition has been reported to be difficult in most of the cases. An early diagnosis and urgent surgical intervention are essential to avoid mortality. We present a case of the characteristic US and CT findings of this entity.

INTRODUCTION Gastrojejunocolic (GJC) fistulae represent a significant post-surgical cause of morbidity and mortality. GJC fistulae represent rare post-surgical complications, and most are associated with gastric surgery. In the past, this complication has been under-recognized because a fistula may form years after surgery. CASE PRESENTATION We describe two cases of gastrojejunocolic fistula ...

Formation of N-nitroso compounds in gastric juice has been implicated in the pathogenesis of cancer in the stomach after operation. Gastric juice was aspirated from 85 subjects: 23 were controls, 51 had previously undergone vagotomy and gastrojejunostomy, and 11 had previously undergone vagotomy and pyloroplasty. The gastric juice samples were analysed for pH, nitrite, and total N-nitroso compo...

BACKGROUND Anastomotic stenosis, leak, and hemorrhage are common stapler-related complications of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. In May 2007, we transitioned from a 25-mm diameter, 4.8-mm-height circular stapler to a 25-mm, 3.5-mm-height circular stapler. We hypothesized that the staple height would be associated with a decreased incidence of perioperative complications. METHODS The r...

TO THE EDITOR—We read the case report by Solari et al [1] with great interest because the authors presented a fatal case of relapsing Clostridium difficile infection treated with fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) using a gastrojejunostomy tube. This tube was placed through an already existing gastric feeding tube, and the patient died 4 days later due to septic shock; Pseudomonas aeruginos...

This study records the gastric secretory response, using the Kay augmented histamine test, and compares "medical" vagotomy with atropine and hexamethonium with "surgical" vagotomy. The results suggest that it may be of value in predicting the effect of vagotomy with gastrojejunostomy.

A case of recurrent acute retrograde jejunogastric intussusception is described in a 45-year-old man who five years previously had had an antecolic gastrojejunostomy. Two previous haematemases imply that this complication was recurrent and self reducing an unusual and fortuitous outcome. Awareness of the possibility of acute intussusception following gastroenterostomy or partial gastrectomy is ...
