We report a young child without a family history of FAP, who promptly underwent APC testing after the histological confirmation of a paraspinal GAF that was not isolated. Our case report reinforces the suggestion advanced by previous authors for an APC analysis in all patients with GAF.
We introduce and study a family of lattice equations which may be viewed either as strongly nonlinear discrete extension the Gardner equation, or non-convex variant Lotka-Volterra chain. Their deceptively simple form supports very rich complex solitary patterns. Some these patterns are also found in quasi-continuum rendition, but more intriguing ones, like interlaced pairs waves, waves reverse ...
The singular manifold method from the Painlevé analysis can be used to investigate many important integrable properties for the nonlinear partial differential equations. In this paper, the two-singular-manifold method is applied to the (2+1)-dimensional Gardner equation with two Painlevé expansion branches to determine the Hirota bilinear form, Bäcklund transformation, Lax pairs and Darboux tra...
Steady, Darcian, 1-D, 1-phase evaporation through a vertically inhomogeneous soil from a horizontal water table is simulated as an optimal control problem, i.e. the hydraulic properties of the porous medium (relative permeability of moisture and capillary water retention curve) are considered as control functions. The Richards nonlinear ordinary differential equation is integrated twice as a bo...
Involutivity is the algebraic property that guarantees solutions to an analytic and torsion-free exterior differential system or partial differential equation via the Cartan–Kähler theorem. Guillemin normal form establishes that the prolonged symbol of an involutive system admits a commutativity property on certain subspaces of the prolonged tableau. This article examines Guillemin normal form ...
This special issue of Soil Science celebrates the enormous accomplishments made during the past century or more in the field of soil science, including some of the key articles published in Soil Science during its 90 years of existence. In this article, we focus on the contributions in soil physics, exemplified by the articles of Willard Gardner (1919) and John Philip (1957c), both of which are...
