In a recent psychophysiological study using simultaneous electroencephalography/functional magnetic resonance imaging (EEG/fMRI) to investigate pain processing in the human brain we also sought to evaluate the usefulness of recording galvanic skin response (GSR)/electrodermal activity (EDA) during the course of the experiment. Our questions/objectives were a) is it possible to obtain single-tri...

In this paper, we discuss findings from a study that used panoramic video-based virtual environments (PVVEs) to induce self-reported anger. The study assessed "immersiveness" and physiological correlates of anger arousal (i.e., heart rate, blood pressure, galvanic skin response [GSR], respiration, and skin temperature). Results indicate that over time, panoramic video-based virtual scenarios ca...

introduction to extract and combine information from different modalities, fusion techniques are commonly applied to promote system performance. in this study, we aimed to examine the effectiveness of fusion techniques in emotion recognition. materials and methods electrocardiogram (ecg) and galvanic skin responses (gsr) of 11 healthy female students (mean age: 22.73±1.68 years) were collected ...

Hypnosis utilizes trance to access otherwise inaccessible repressed or unconscious memories and features of the psyche and control of physiology not attainable in the ordinary conscious waking state. Medical uses of hypnosis in dermatology include reducing discomfort from itching or skin pain, altering ingrained dysfunctional habits such as scratching, promoting healing of skin disorders, searc...

We investigated the effect of galvanic skin response (GSR) biofeedback training on seizure frequency in patients with treatment-resistant epilepsy. Eighteen patients with drug-refractory epilepsy were randomly assigned either to an active GSR biofeedback group (n = 10) or to a sham control biofeedback group (n = 8). Biofeedback training significantly reduced seizure frequency in the active biof...

This paper proposes a mathematical model for the heart rate signal using hand GSR and power samples of the R peak of the ECG through multiple regression analysis. Mathematical model helps to study the relation of the dependent function with its independent functions and to correlate with the biological processes. The paper proposed four models for heart rate. Each model had R 2 values such as 0...

We show that winning the game New Age Solitaire only depends on the number of rising sequences in the deck used. The probability of winning for the special case of a new deck that is shuffled using the GSR-shuffle (and two variants) are studied. We show that this game pinpoints the Achilles heel of the GSR-shuffle as is demonstrated using the variation distance.

The present study shows how motor expertise increases individuals' sensitivity to others' affective body movement. This enhanced sensitivity is evident in the experts' behavior and physiology. Nineteen affective movement experts (professional ballet dancers) and 24 controls watched 96 video clips of emotionally expressive body movements while they performed an affect rating task (subjective res...

21 young males were asked to "image" or to "associate" to 10 words from each of 3 categories representing sex, hostility, and family relationships. Imagery was found to produce heightened GSR activity, more primary process, more direct representation of drives, and less effective defense. The superiority of visual imagery over verbal association as an uncovering technique was attributed to the ...

The Sa were seated in a comfortable chair facing a hidden speaker. The finger cup was sealed to the tip of the right finger with a caulking compound (Nu-Calk) and the hand was allowed to rest on the wide arm of the chair. The other recording equipment was attached and Ss were left alone in the BOund-controlled testing room. The Ss were randomly assigned to shortand long-stimulus groups (20 intr...
