Adaptation to climate change might not always occur, with potentially catastrophic results. Success depends on coordinated actions at both governmental and individual levels (public and private adaptation). Even for a “wet” country like the Netherlands, climate change projections show that the frequency and severity of droughts are likely to increase. Freshwater is an important factor for agric...

This article examines potential climate change impacts on agricultural production at two locations in south-eastern Bavaria. The predicted changes of climatic variables lead to a higher yield variability and therefore increased production risk. Consequently, there is a need for adaptation strategies, especially an improved risk management, which will help farmers to cope with higher yield risks.

climate is changing and various scenarios indicate accelerated climate change in the future. if farmers and rural residents’ capacities do not enhance to adapt to the impacts of climate change, the impacts will overwhelm on agriculture and rural communities. extension systems can play an important role in agricultural adaptation to climate change. therefore, the aim of this research was to expl...

In smallholder agriculture, women farmers are largely responsible for the selection, improvement and adaptation of plant varieties. In many regions, women are also responsible for the management of small livestock, including their reproduction. Women often have a more highly specialized knowledge of wild plants used for food, fodder and medicine than men. Women – users, preservers and managers ...

Enhancement of genetic diversity in rainfed wheat field and more attention toward specific adaptation for promoting production efficiency of microclimates in rainfed areas of Iran, are effective approaches to cope with dominant biotic and abiotic stresses and one of the effective methods to reach to these cases is to conduct a part of plant breeding program of research stations in farmers’ fiel...

Common lands provide smallholder farmers in Africa with firewood, timber, and feed for livestock, and they are used to complement human diets through the collection of edible nontimber forest products (NTFPs). Farmers have developed coping mechanisms, which they deploy at times of climatic shocks. We aimed to analyze the importance of NTFPs in times of drought and to identify options that could...

Agriculture and food security are key sectors for intervention under climate change. Agricultural production is highly vulnerable even to 2C (low-end) predictions for global mean temperatures in 2100, with major implications for rural poverty and for both rural and urban food security. Agriculture also presents untapped opportunities for mitigation, given the large land area under crops and ran...
