Most cases of Ewing's sarcoma are reported in the bone, and extraosseous Ewing's sarcoma is an extremely rare disease. Here, we report a rare case of primary pulmonary Ewing's sarcoma in a patient with hemoptysis. The patient underwent right upper lung lobe lobectomy with adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy and has been free of recurrent disease for 4 years.
Ewing sarcoma, including classical Ewing sarcoma of the bone and primitive neuroectodermal tumors arising in bone or extraosseous primary sites, is a highly aggressive childhood neoplasm. We present two cases of Ewing sarcoma arising from the vagina in young girls. Previously reported cases in literature focused on their pathologic rather than radiographic features. We describe the spectrum of ...
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Ewing's sarcoma family of tumor (ESFT) is aggressive. The optimal therapy modality for ESFT is still to be found. This study was to explore the clinical characteristics and therapy for ESFT. METHODS Ninety-two cases of ESFT were collected from January 1995 to April 2008 in Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center and analyzed retrospectively. RESULT Of 92 cases, 23 were...
Introduction Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a rare and aggressive malignant neoplasm that mostly affects children and adolescents. Recent studies reported a gap of 20% in childhood cancer survival rates between the Northern/Western and the Eastern European countries. We aimed to analyse the survival of patients treated for ES at our institution, to evaluate its correspondence to current survival rates i...
Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma (EES) is a type of Ewing's sarcoma that arises in soft tissue and is now regarded as a member of a family of small round cell neoplasms of bone and soft tissue, including primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs). EES occurs predominantly in adolescents and young adults between the ages of 10 and 30 years. The disease follows an aggressive course with a high recurre...
BACKGROUND Ewing's sarcoma and primitive neuroectodermal tumor of bone are closely related, highly malignant tumors of children, adolescents, and young adults. A new drug combination, ifosfamide and etoposide, was highly effective in patients with Ewing's sarcoma or primitive neuroectodermal tumor of bone who had a relapse after standard therapy. We designed a study to test whether the addition...
The peripheral triphenylamine-encapsulated red-emitting iridium(III) complexes have been designed and synthesized. External quantum efficiency over 15% has been realized in single-layer polymer light-emitting diodes, which is the highest ever reported for solution-processed red phosphorescence.
Removal of a grossly deformed nail can be a serious and perplexing problem. We report an innovative technique to cut and extract a loose bent Kuntscher nail. The technique is simple and effective; can be used in peripheral hospitals where advanced gadgetries may not be present.
Ewing's sarcoma accounts for a disproportionately high portion of the overall pediatric mortality rate compared to its rare incidence in the pediatric population. Little progress has been made since the introduction of traditional chemotherapies, and understanding the biology of the tumor is critical for developing new therapies. Ewing's sarcomas rely on a functional vascular supply, which is f...
Although intracranial dural metastasis of Ewing's sarcoma is a very rare finding, its imaging characteristics are similar to those of its primary form in the central nervous system. Thus, this tumor must be considered in the differential diagnosis of extra-axial dural masses.
