The response of the heart to electrical shock, electrical propagation in sinus rhythm, and the spatiotemporal dynamics of ventricular fibrillation all depend critically on the electrical anisotropy of cardiac tissue. A long-held view of cardiac electrical anisotropy is that electrical conductivity is greatest along the myocyte axis allowing most rapid propagation of electrical activation in thi...
The electrical conductivities, Seebeck coefficients and thermal conductivities across the ZnO–In2O3 binary system are reported and related to the phase compositions and microstructures present at 1150 and 1250 C. The ZnO–In2O3 binary system is of particular interest as it contains a variety of different types of phases, superlattice (modular) phases, solid solutions, two-phase regions and cryst...
We report a general approach to fabricate elastomeric composites possessing high electrical conductivity for applications ranging from wireless charging interfaces to stretchable electronics. By using arbitrary nine kinds of rubbers as matrices, we experimentally demonstrate that the matching the solubility parameter of CNTs and the rubber matrix is important to achieve higher electrical conduc...

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites possess many advantages for aircraft structures over conventional aluminum alloys: light weight, higher strengthand stiffness-to-weight ratio, and low life-cycle maintenance costs. However, the relatively low thermal and electrical conductivities of CFRP composites are deficient in providing structural safety under certain operational conditions...
Thermal and electrical conduction in ultrathin metallic films: 7 nm down to sub-nanometer thickness.
For ultrathin metallic films (e.g., less than 5 nm), no knowledge is yet available on how electron scattering at surface and grain boundaries reduces the electrical and thermal transport. The thermal and electrical conduction of metallic films is characterized down to 0.6 nm average thickness. The electrical and thermal conductivities of 0.6 nm Ir film are reduced by 82% and 50% from the respec...
This paper reports results from electrical and thermal conduction measurements carried out on the DNA-gold composite for which the overall conduction is shown to be dominated by the DNA rather than the discontinuous gold coatings. The electrical and thermal conductivities of the composite were about 14 S/cm and 150 W/(m K) at room temperature, respectively. The resulting value of 3.6 x 10(-4) W...
We calculate the electrical and thermal conductivities and the thermoelectric coefficient of a class of strongly interacting 2+1 dimensional conformal field theories with anti-de Sitter space duals. We obtain these transport coefficients as a function of charge density, background magnetic field, temperature and frequency. We show that the thermal conductivity and thermoelectric coefficient are...
In this paper, we study the stability result for the conductivities diffusion coefficients to a strongly reaction-diffusion system modeling electrical activity in the heart. To study the problem, we establish a Carleman estimate for our system. The proof is based on the combination of a Carleman estimate and certain weight energy estimates for parabolic systems.
