Transcriptomics experiments and computational predictions both enable systematic discovery of new functional RNAs. However, many putative noncoding transcripts arise instead from artifacts and biological noise, and current computational prediction methods have high false positive rates. I discuss prospects for improving computational methods for analyzing and identifying functional RNAs, with a...

We deform the AdS/CFT Correspondence by the inclusion of a non-supersymmetric scalar mass operator. We discuss the behaviour of the dual 5 dimensional supergravity field then lift the full solution to 10 dimensions. Brane probing the resulting background reveals a potential consistent with the operator we wished to insert. e-mail: [email protected], [email protected], n.evans@hep....

With rapid changes in technology and intense competition in the business environment the importance of cultivating and sustaining foresight in multiple-product innovation firms has been propelled to unprecedented heights. Yet, research on the processes through which such firms mobilise foresight in their working environment remains scarce. This paper seeks to explore the different processes thr...

The application of human immunology in solving security problems in Grid Computing seems to be a thought-provoking research area. Grid involves large number of dynamic heterogeneous resources. Manually managing the security for such dynamic system is always fault prone. This paper presents the simple immune based model for self-protection (SIMS) of grid environment from various attacks like DoS...

This research attempts to span the gap between the AI in medicine (AIM) and consistency-based diagnosis (CBD) communities by applying CBD to physiology. The highly-regulated nature of physiological systems challenges standard CBD algorithms, which are not tailored for complex dynamic systems. To combat this problem, we separate static from dynamic analysis, so that CBD is performed over the ste...

Background & Objective: Periodontal problem is a common infectious disease in human. Certain systemic diseases that may influence on development and progress of periodontal disease, recent evidence have approved effects of the periodontal disease on a few systemic diseases including acute myocardial infarction and vise versa. This study evaluated clinical periodontal indices and determined th...

Software is increasingly being built through the composition of exisiting components , such as web services, where access to the source code, and in some cases even the executable code, is unavailable. The users of these components must rely on the existing documentation of the component to understand how the component should be used. However, this documentation is often imprecise or incomplete...

We study moments and asymptotic distributions of the construction cost, measured as the total displacement, for hash tables using linear probing. Four different methods are employed for different ranges of the parameters; together they yield a complete description. This extends earlier results by Flajolet, Poblete and Viola. The average cost of unsuccessful searches is considered too.
