We introduce a new metric for dynamic range of displays that closely corresponds with human perception in practical settings. The Number of Distinguishable Grays is a count of the visible luminance steps from the deepest black to the brightest white a display produces under known ambient conditions.
We present a new approach to display High Dynamic Range (HDR) video using gradient based high dynamic range compression. To obtain HDR video, we utilize the split aperture camera. We apply a spatio-temporal gradient based video integration algorithm for fast and accurate integration of the three input HDR videos into a low dynamic range video, which is suitable for display. The spatiotemporal v...
This paper introduces a new approach for optimum auto exposure (AE) based on the high-dynamic-range histogram (HDH) of a scene. The exposure control is optimal in terms of recorded information of the scene. The advantages over AE based on mean values of images will be shown as well as a proof of concept implementation and results. Futhermore possible extensions to this approach are discussed. T...

There are a variety of techniques for combining the three different images into a single image, but the main limitation is the dynamic range of the media that the photo will finally be displayed on. Paper and digital monitors, like digital sensors, are “low dynamic range” devices, and thus cannot demonstrate the greater dynamic range that has been captured. Tonemapping is one process by which h...
We report a concept to increase the dynamic range of capillary driven microfluidics for use in point-of-care diagnostics [1]. The chip uses one-pipetting step of 20 μL of human serum spiked with C-reactive protein (CRP) at 100 ng/mL. A four-fold increase in signal strength is achieved by varying the flow rate in six different reaction chambers.
