Many biological systems can switch between two distinct states. Once switched, the system remains stable for a period of time and may switch back to its original state. A gene network with bistability is usually required for the switching and stochastic effect in the gene expression may induce such switching. A typical bistable system allows one-directional switching, in which the switch from t...

In this paper, a new all-optical switching structure is proposed and analyzed. Switching is accomplished by embedded Kerr nonlinear rods in the coupling region of a photonic crystal directional coupler. We show that by modifying the supermodes dispersion curves, the switch length can be reduced 22% with respect to similar structures. Finite-Difference TimeDomain and Plane Wave Expansion methods...

The dynamics of a spontaneous downconversion process with the idler mode coupled to an auxiliary mode is analysed. Depending on the presence or absence of nonlinear phase mismatch, a Zeno or anti–Zeno effect is found. This behavior is understood by using the dressed modes picture of the device. A possibility to achieve a quasi–phase– matching by careful adjustment of coupling strength is pointe...

Post-mineralization activities may cause difficulties in the process of ore modeling in porphyry deposits. Sungun, NW Iran, is one of the porphyry copper deposits, in which dyke intrusions have made ore modeling more complicated than expected. Among different kinds of dykes, two types were chosen and the consequent geostatistical analyses were applied on. In this study, simple directional vario...

This article has focused on evaluation and identification of effective parameters in positioning performance with an odometry approach of an omni-directional mobile robot. Although there has been research in this field, but in this paper, a new approach has been proposed for mobile robot in positioning performance. With respect to experimental investigations of different parameters in omni-dire...

_ The level crossing rate (LCR) of a random process conveys useful information about the underlying process, and is of interest in diverse engineering fields. In wireless communications, it is related to the system characteristics such as handoff, outage probability, fading rate, average duration of fades, velocity (or maximum Doppler shift) of the mobile, and the effect of diversity on fading....
