Narrowband Interference Suppression in Spread Spectrum CDMA H. Vincent Poor, Leslie A. Rusch Code-division multiple-access (CDMA) implemented with direct-sequence spread spectrum signaling is among the most promising multiplexing technologies for cellular telecommunications services, such as personal communications, mobile telephony, and indoor wireless networks [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The advantages ...

As discussed in Chapter 0, a spread spectrum modulation produces a transmitted spectrum much wider than the minimum bandwidth required. There are many ways to generate spread spectrum signals. We are going to introduce some of the most common spread spectrum techniques such as direct sequence (DS), frequency hop (FH), time hop (TH), and multicarrier (MC). Of course, one can also mix these sprea...

Severe frequency-selective fading, encountered in a broadband wireless mobile communication, significantly degrades the bit error rate (BER) performance of direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) signal transmission with rake combining. In this paper, frequency-domain pre-equalization transmission, called pre-FDE transmission, is presented for orthogonal multicode DSSS signal transmission. It is...

We compare single user digital Multi-Carrier Spread Spectrum modulation with Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum in the presence of frequency-selective multipath fading. We derive closed-form expressions for the bit error probability and show that MC-SS is more robust to multipath fading than is DS-SS.

A hybrid time- and space-integrating optical signal processor for spread spectrum application is described. The system is self-synchronizing and capable of decoding frequency-hopped spread spectrum signals with a large time-bandwidth product. Extensions to hybrid frequency-hopped/direct-sequence systems and to ambiguity function processors are provided. Both theory and experimental verification...

The investigation of a spectrum overlay of a Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum system on the existing narrowband FM and wideband TV broadcasting system is presented.. Results from subjective listening and viewing tests are presented in order to decide on he RF protection ratios for the FM and TV receivers in an overlay scenarios. Keywords—Spread spectrum; spectrum overlay; FM AM Broadcasting syst...

In this paper we extend the single channel adaptive linear receiver (ALR) to the multidimensional case. The extension is used for the cancellation of strong spatially-distributed narrowband interference in direct sequence spread spectrum communications. Simulations show a gain of 8 dB for the case of two interferences occupying 30% of the bandwidth of the spread spectrum signal.

This paper addresses CDMA transceiver using direct sequence spread spectrum and includes real time signal processing for scrambling of spread spectrum signal, and descrambling the signal at the receiver using the same pseudo-random code. The simulation of the entire DS-CDMA transceiver system has been implemented using MATLAB, which provides real time audio input to the system.
