SUMMARY In 28 school children with primary hypothyroidism due to iodine deficiency, 100 µg levothyroxine (L-T4} was administered for nine weeks and resulted in normalization of serum T4, T3, and TSH. Five months after withdrawal of L-T 4 , thyroid function was normal in the majority of subjects. Serum T4 was 8.6±2.3 µg/dl ; T3, 156±2.3 ng/dl; and TSH, 6.9± 12.7 µU/ml. Introduction: In order to assess echocardiographic left ventricular functional indices in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC), after L-T4 withdrawal (short-term overt hypothyroidism) and during TSH suppressive therapy, we have evaluated cardiac hemodynamics in a single cohort study. Methods: 24 patients with DTC were studied in two phases: 1: at least 4 weeks after L-T4 withdra...

Treatment includes levothyroxine administration at suppressive doses, focal treatment modalities with surgery, external radiation therapy and thermal ablation, and radioiodine in patients with uptake of (131)I in their metastases. Two thirds of distant metastases will become refractory to radioiodine at some point, and wh...

It has been established that soy products can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption resulting in continued hypothyroidism in individuals receiving recommended levothyroxine replacement. It has also been reported that achievement of euthyroidism in hypothyroid patients using soy products requires increased doses of levothyroxine. We have observed 2 patients with congenital hypothyroidism who...

UNLABELLED Recent findings showed the presence of a reciprocal relationship between thyroid hormones and ghrelin, although the exact mechanism is not known. DESIGN Our study is addressed to evaluate the effect of acute exogenous rhTSH administration on serum ghrelin levels in athyreotic patients on replacement l-thyroxine therapy. The study group included 50 patients (16 males and 34 females)...
