Regular boundary element method is employed for the variational formulation of Helmholtz equation that governs the waveguiding problems. Like in the Charge simulation method, in this method, the source points associated with the fundamental solutions are allocated outside the domain so that the singular integrals which occur in the standard boundary element procedure can be avoided. First, the ...

We perform two analyses on temperature effects in Metal-Clad Subwavelength Semiconductor Lasers (MCSELs). Firstly, we analyze the temperature dependence of the threshold gain in the infinite waveguide approximation. We show that the dielectric layer of the semiconductor-dielectric-metal composite waveguide (CWG) becomes increasingly important as temperature increases. However, we further show t...

The emerging field of nanophotonics1 addresses the critical challenge of manipulating light on scales much smaller than the wavelength. However, very few feasible practical approaches exist at present. Surface plasmon polaritons are among the most promising candidates for subwavelength optical confinement. However, studies of long-range surface plasmon polaritons have only demonstrated optical ...

The slow-wave cyclotron-resonance master ~CRM! oscillator experiment presented in this paper produces output signals that correspond to normal and anomalous Doppler shifts. The table-top low-voltage (,10 kV! CRM device consists of a double stripline waveguide. The metal strips are loaded by dielectric slabs; thus the waveguide supports slow waves with different phase velocities in odd and even ...

For a good THz waveguide, both low propagating loss and small mode width are usually very important. However, the high ohmic loss of metals and the high absorption loss of dielectric materials result in that it still remains a challenge to obtain the two capabilities at the same time. In this paper, planar dielectric-gap-metal (DGM) waveguides are presented to guide THz wave. According to the d...

We proposed the dielectric filling in a vgroove on GaAs wafer. In order to fabricate easily, the channel plasmon polaritons waveguide is proposed and analyzed, compared to conventional optical waveguide based on multi-epitaxial layer. The propagation loss is analyzed using 3-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method. We obtained the propagation loss of 1.02 dB / 30 μm.

The millimeter-wave front-end module for an automotive radar sensor is generally composed of an antenna placed on the front surface of the sensor head and a millimeter-wave circuit inside it. As the antenna for the radar sensor, several types of antennas, a slotted waveguide antenna, a triplate antenna, a dielectric lens antenna, a dielectric leaky wave antenna and a microstrip antenna, have be...

We introduce a general designing procedure that allows us, for any given photonic crystal slab, to create an appropriate line defect structure that possesses single-mode bands with large bandwidth and low dispersion within the photonic band-gap region below the light line. This procedure involves designing a high index dielectric waveguide that is phase matched with the gap of the photonic crys...

In this paper, scattering and coupling problems of the directional coupler for the dielectric rectangular waveguides are analyzed by the mode-matching method in the sense of least squares for the fundamental mode incidence. This directional coupler is composed of three parallel dielectric rectangular waveguides cores which are placed at equal space in the dielectric medium. Namely, respective c...

Development of techniques for characterization of extremely thin films is an important challenge in terahertz (THz) science and applications. Spectroscopic measurements of materials on the nanometer scale or of atomic layer thickness (2D materials) require a sufficient terahertz wave–matter interaction length, which is challenging to achieve in conventional transmission geometry. Waveguide-base...
