Two delay-coupled semiconductor lasers are studied in the regime where the coupling delay is comparable to the time scales of the internal laser oscillations. Detuning the optical frequency between the two lasers, novel delay-induced scenarios leading from optical frequency locking to successive states of periodic intensity pulsations are observed. We demonstrate and analyze these dynamical phe...

We report greatly enhanced modulation response of multimode vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (MM-VCSELs), for the first time, using optical injection locking. A 3-dB bandwidth of 38 GHz and 54 GHz resonance frequency are achieved using a MM-VCSEL with a 3 GHz free-running bandwidth. We show that transverse mode selection can be attained with optical injection locking through frequency an...

In nonlinear optics 2⇡-periodic solutions a 2 C2([0, 2⇡];C) of the stationary Lugiato-Lefever equation da00 = (i ⇣)a+ |a|2a if serve as a model for frequency combs, which are optical signals consisting of a superposition of modes with equally spaced frequencies. We prove that nontrivial frequency combs can only be observed for special ranges of values of the forcing and detuning parameters f an...

We have developed an extended-cavity tunable diode laser system that has a small linewidth and a large output power (more than 90% of the free-running power) whose operating frequency can be conveniently locked to a transition line of Rb atoms. Based on flat-mirror feedback and frequency self-locking and with weak feedback, we have achieved a continuous frequency detuning range greater than 900...

Scanning oscillator techniques previously developed for transmitter applications have been successfully applied to the receive mode. Scanning is achieved through frequency detuning in a coupled set of local oscillators. The design of a five element receiving array is presented here, demonstrating a 25' scan range. An injection-locking technique is described for low-phase noise applications.

A novel scheme to achieve large-angle atomic diffraction by standing-wave fields is proposed. It uses a highorder Doppleron resonance as a catalyst to speed up a high-order Bragg resonance by orders of magnitude. This effect occurs when the atom-field frequency detuning is such that the Bragg resonance and the Doppleron resonance become degenerate.

We have continued our precision studies of laser induced stimulated resonance Raman interactions in a sodium atomic beam with emphasis on Ramsey's method of separated oscillatory fields. We observed Raman-Ramsey fringes for a field separation of up to 30 cm, and the data were consistent with theoretical predictions. We have also been investigating the performance of a clock based on this intera...

We investigate the single-photon quantum routing composed of two infinite waveguides coupled to giant two-level atoms. The exact expressions transmission and reflection amplitudes are derived with real-space approach. It is found that single photon scattering behavior strongly dependent on phase difference between adjacent atom-waveguide coupling points, frequency detuning, strength atoms, inte...

We present experimental evidence of the optical spring effect in a silica microtoroid resonator. The variation of the measured mechanical resonant frequency as a function of optical power, optical coupling, and optical detuning is in very good agreement with a model for radiation-pressure-induced rigidity in a silica microtoroid.
