Recently, Dominique et al. reported that contamination of the dermoscopic lens by human papillomavirus (HPV) may be common [1]. Results of their study revealed that wartspecific HPV DNA is detected with a high frequency (43%) on a dermoscopic lens before examination and that the detection rate is increased to 82% after plantar wart examination. Furthermore, cleaning dermoscope lenses with an an...

Dermoscopy is an in vivo method for the early diagnosis of malignant melanoma and the differential diagnosis of pigmented lesions of the skin. It has been shown to increase diagnostic accuracy over clinical visual inspection in the hands of experienced physicians. This article is a review of the principles of dermoscopy as well as recent technological developments.
Clinicopathologic correlation is essential for diagnostic accuracy. Even though interdependent, dermatology and dermatopathology have become apart. In order to minimize this distance, we have performed ex vivo dermoscopic examinations. We performed comparative in vivo and ex vivo dermoscopy study followed by histopathological mapping. We observed that ex vivo dermoscopy identified the same stru...
Dermatofibroma is a frequent benign tumor of easy clinical diagnosis in most cases, but that can mimic other dermatoses. Dermoscopy may help to define the diagnosis and its classical pattern is a central white area, similar to a scar, surrounded by a discrete pigment network. However, dermoscopic findings are not always typical. We describe here a case of dermatofibroma exhibiting ridges, furro...
Nevus comedonicus (NC) is a very rare, benign hamartoma characterised by the occurrence of dilated, comedo-like openings, typically on the face, neck, upper arms, chest or abdomen. In uncertain cases, histopathological examination confirms the diagnosis. The authors suggest dermoscopy as a rapid and useful method of initial diagnosis of nevus comedonicus based upon its distinctive dermoscopic f...
BACKGROUND Scabies is a parasitic skin disease endemic in resource-poor communities in low-income countries. The best ways to diagnose scabies in this setting have not been investigated. OBJECTIVE To compare the diagnostic properties of dermoscopy, the microscopic examination of a skin scraping, and the adhesive tape test in 125 patients with a presumptive diagnosis of scabies. DESIGN A pro...
The case presents a Caucasian female, who had been consulting dermatology for nine years for asymptomatic lesions on the central thorax, present from the first days of life. On physical examination, multiple brown and skin-colored papules were observed 2-3 mm in size (Figure 1). With dermoscopy (polarized light), the lesions showed an agminated homogeneous blue pattern (Figure 2) and a pore, th...

Over last years, numerous studies have addressed use dermatoscopy general dermatology its role diagnostics. Although dermoscopy these conditions has not yet been incorporated into daily routine. Efforts to standardize may change this future. In review article, author...
