A plate diffusion assay for endopeptidases was developed. Proteases applied to plates containing 1% casein, 1% gelatin, and 1.5% agar caused distinct zones reminiscent of immunoprecipitation bands. The diameter of the zones was linearly proportional to the log of the enzyme activity applied over a range from 0.01 to greater than 100 IU/ml.
The estrogen receptor (ER) status of breast cancer is used both as a prognostic factor and as a predictor of response to endocrine therapy. An immunoenzymometric assay for ER was developed on 96-well microtiter plates (EIA96). This technique involves two monoclonal antibodies directed against different epitopes in the B domain of ER. The two-step protocol (16-18 h and 3 h at 4 degrees C) requir...
A large-plate method employing radial diffusion from small paper discs for assaying serum levels of neomycin is described. More than 120 discs placed on a loading plate and loaded with 20 muliters of sample could all be brought into contact with the agar plate at one time. The requirement for elaborate statistical design to compensate for time-dependent bias was thus eliminated. The dose-respon...
The male imago of Cloeodes irvingi Waltz & McCafferty, 1987 is described for the first time based on reared nymphs collected from the state of Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil. It is differentiated from Neotropical congeners, among other characteristics, by the marginal intercalary veins being paired, except between veins ICu1-ICu2 and ICu2-CuP where they are single and between Sc-R1 and CuP-A w...
Pelvic discontinuity in revision total hip arthroplasty presents problems with component fixation and union. A construct was proposed based on bicolumnar fixation for transverse acetabular fractures. Each of 3 reconstructions was performed on 6 composite hemipelvises: (1) a cup-cage construct, (2) a posterior column plate construct, and (3) a bicolumnar construct (no. 2 plus an antegrade 4.5-mm...
PURPOSE To evaluate the fixation strength at the interface between the Kerboull-type plate and bone cement in 6 experimental conditions. METHODS Experimental materials comprised a simulated acetabular block, a simulated Kerboulltype plate, a pressuriser cover, a pressuriser arm, and bone cement. The simulated Kerboull-type plate was placed on the simulated acetabular block, with the pressuris...
