Flattened Gaussian beams are characterized by a waist profile that passes in a continuous way from a nearly flat illuminated region to darkness. The steepness of the transition region is controlled by an integer parameter N representing the order of the beam. Being expressible as a sum of N Laguerre–Gauss modes, a flattened Gaussian beam turns out to be very simple to study as far as propagatio...

This paper studies mechanical buckling of functionally graded beams subjected to axial compressive load that is simply supported at both ends lies on a continuous elastic foundation. The displacement field of beam is assumed based on EngesserTimoshenko beam theory. Applying the Hamilton's principle, the equilibrium equation is established. The influences of dimensionless geometrical parameter, ...
Shielding, coincidence, and time-of-flight measurement techniques are employed to tag fast neutrons emitted from an (241)Am/(9)Be source resulting in a continuous polychromatic energy-tagged beam of neutrons with energies up to 7MeV. The measured energy structure of the beam agrees qualitatively with both previous measurements and theoretical calculations.
A Bessel-like beam was generated in a novel all-fiber integrated structure. A concentric ring intensity pattern was achieved by the multimode interference along the coreless silica fiber, which was then focused by the integrated micro-lens to result in a Bessel-like beam. The average beam diameter of 7.5 μm maintained over 500 μm axial length for a continuous wave Yb-doped fiber laser input osc...
We realize a continuous, intense, cold molecular and atomic beam source based on buffer-gas cooling. Hot vapor (up to 600K) from an oven is mixed with cold (15K) neon buffer gas, and then emitted into a high-flux beam. The novel use of cold neon as a buffer gas produces a forward velocity distribution and low-energy tail that is comparable to much colder helium-based sources. We expect this sou...
We present a new method for precision measurement of the capture flux polarization of a polychromatic (white), continuous cold neutron beam, polarized by a (3)He spin filter. This method allows an in situ measurement and does not require knowledge of the neutron beam wavelength distribution. We show that a polarimetry precision of 0.1 % is possible.

Amplitude and phase control of the output beam of a multimode LMA fiber supporting 4 modes is demonstrated by digital holography in both continuous and ns pulsed regimes at 1064 nm. Our system allows dynamic compensation of beam pointing instabilities, external perturbations introducing low order aberrations and fluctuations of the relative phase of the modes supported by the fiber.
