We examined visual search for color singleton targets, whose shape was discriminated. Critically, we varied the reward priority of singleton colors (correct fast performance was worth more bonus points for red singletons than for green singletons, or vice versa) to test whether event-related potential signatures of visual selection can be affected by distinct reward priorities for different tar...

This paper presents a case study of a seizure-induced transient dyslexic episode experienced by a radio presenter while reading a script live on air. An analysis of the recording of the episode in conjunction with the script being read yields a number of interesting observations. There is, for example, a distinct temporal pattern of breakdown from what can be characterized as orthographic error...

Green incentives are included in the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009” (ARRA). It is, however, unclear how these government incentives can be carried out most effectively according to market-based principles and if they can serve as a catalyst for an accelerated green transformation and an ultimate solution to the current U.S. and global economic and financial crisis. The article...

An expression for the Green's function at an arbitrary set of passive locations (no applied force) is derived and validated by experiment. Three sets of points are involved, the passive reconstruction points, c, which lie on a virtual boundary and two sets of auxiliary points, denoted a and b, located either side. The reconstruction is achieved using Green's functions forming a "round trip" fro...

When all Green’s functions are known in a given gauge we may raise a question of whether it is possible or not to derive the corresponding ones in a different gauge. The answer is negative in QCD but affirmative in QED provided that we confine ourselves to the covariant gauge characterized by a gauge parameter α. We shall discuss the physical significance of this conclusion.

Pointwise a posteriori error estimates are derived for linear secondorder elliptic problems over general polygonal domains in 2D. The analysis carries over regardless of convexity, accounting even for slit domains, and applies to highly graded unstructured meshes as well. A key ingredient is a new asymptotic a priori estimate for regularized Green's functions. The estimators lead always to uppe...
