We report a facile one-step route to graft poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) onto cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs). The dispersibility of the PIL-functionalized CNFs in water and various organic solvents could be tuned by the choice of the PIL-binding anion. We demonstrate that such omnidispersible PIL@CNF hybrids can be used to reinforce porous poly(ionic liquid) membranes.

We have previously shown that carbon nanofibers (CNFs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can sensitize prostate cancer (PCa) cells to platinum-based chemotherapeutics. In order to further verify this concept and to avoid a bias, the present study investigates the chemosensitizing potential of CNFs and CNTs to the conventional chemotherapeutics docetaxel (DTX) and mitomycin C (MMC), which have differe...

In this study, the adsorption of 1-chloro-4-nitrobenzene (1C4NB) on carbon nanofibers (CNFs), was investigated in a batch system. The combined effects of operating parameters such as contact time, pH, initial 1C4NB concentration, and CNFs dosage on the adsorption of 1C4NB byCNFs were analyzed using response surface methodology (RSM). The analysis of variance results confirmed that there was sig...

Continuous and uniform carbon nanofilms (CNFs) are prepared by pyrolysis of polyimide films which are produced by molecular layer deposition (MLD). The film thickness can be easily controlled at nanometer scale by altering the cycle numbers. During the annealing process at 600 °C, the polyimide film is subject to shrinkage of 70% in thickness. The obtained CNFs do not exhibit a well-graphitized...

In this paper we establish an exponential lower bound on the size of syntactic non-deterministic read d-times branching programs for d ≤ log n/10 computing a class of monotone CNFs with a linear number of clauses. This result provides the first separation of classes NP and co-NP for syntactic branching programs with a logarithmic repetition and the first separation of syntactic non-deterministi...

A novel and controllable approach is developed for the synthesis of MnO nanocrystals embedded in carbon nanofibers (MnO/CNFs) through an electrospinning process. The as-formed MnO/CNFs have a porous structure with diameters of 100-200 nm and lengths up to several millimeters. When used as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries, the resulting MnO/CNFs exhibit superior electrochemical perfor...

Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) were prepared by combining electrospinning with a high-temperature carbonization technique. And a polyphenol biosensor was fabricated by blending the obtained CNFs with laccase and Nafion. Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) were, respectively, employed to investigate the structures ...

Chitin nanofibers (CNFs) are mainly extracted from crab and prawn shells [1, 2] and recetly found in small amount in edible species of mushrooms [3]. CNFs are composed of chitin compound. Chitin in powder form is obtained from fish industry wastes which is otherwise thrown as industrial waste. Since CNFs are biodegradable having typical width 10-20 nm and large surface-to-mass ratio thus they a...

We present the contrast mechanisms of scanning electron microscopy !SEM" for visualizing the interface between carbon nanofibers !CNFs" and the underlying substrate. SEM imaging with electron beam energies higher than a certain threshold provides different image contrasts depending on whether CNFs are in contact with the substrate or suspended above the substrate. CNFs with diameters ranging fr...
