Sleep spindles and spike-wave discharges are thought to originate from the same thalamic pacemaker. In the present work it is investigated whether sleep spindles and spike-wave discharges are also sensitive for the same drugs. Adult male WAGIRij rats were chronically implanted with frontal and occipital EEG electrode pairs. Rats were intraperitoneally injected with clonidine (0.00625 mgkg), phe...

Amitriptyline, doxepin and chlorpromazine are often used as psychotropic drugs in treatment of the various mental diseases, and are also partly excreted by kidney. This work developed a simple, selective and sensitive method for their simultaneous monitoring in human urine using capillary electrophoresis coupled with electrochemiluminescence (ECL) detection based on end-column ECL reaction of t...

Solanum nigrum was found to proliferate in sediments with high levels of metal pollution. The effect of Zn on plant growth and tissue metal accumulation was assessed. The response of the plant to the inoculation with four different isolates of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) (Glomus sp. BEG140, Glomus claroideum, Glomus mosseae and Glomus intraradices) was studied. While the isolates of AMF ...

The effect of the antiemetic chlorpromazine on bleomycin- and epirubicin cytotoxicity was tested in vitro. Chlorpromazine (0.1 or 0.01 mg/l) enhanced epirubicin-induced toxicity to cultured Chinese fibroblasts whereas 0.01 mg/l chlorpromazine inhibited the cytotoxicity of bleomycin. The results encourage further studies on the effects of commonly used antiemetics on the cytotoxicity and antitum...

OBJECTIVE Strong concerns have been raised about whether the risk of ischemic stroke differs between conventional antipsychotics (CAPs) and atypical antipsychotics (AAPs). This study compared the risk of ischemic stroke in elderly patients taking CAPs and AAPs. METHOD We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 71,584 elderly patients who were newly prescribed the CAPs (haloperidol or chlorp...

The treatment of two chlorpromazine-medicated chronic schizophrenics with cimetidine resulted in excessive sedation, which necessitated a reduction in chlorpromazine dosage. Eventual discontinuation of cimetidine therapy led to a return of schizophrenic symptoms, which responded to an increase in chlorpromazine dosage to previous levels.

Human cytochromes P450 (P450s) play a major role in the biotransformation of drugs. The generated metabolites are important for pharmaceutical, medical, and biotechnological applications and can be used for derivatization or toxicological studies. The availability of human drug metabolites is restricted and alternative ways of production are requested. For this, microbial P450s turned out to be...

The inhibition of protein synthesis in the brains of rats treated with chlorpromazine has been reported by Piha, Oja, and Usitalio (1) and by Glasky (2). In agreement with these observations, we were able to inhibit the incorporation of labeled amino acids into the brain proteins of mice by treating the animals with chlorpromazine. However, we were unable to demonstrate inhibition of the incorp...
