Electrospray ionization has enabled the establishment of a new area of ion chemistry research based on the study of the reactions of high-mass multiply charged ions with ions of opposite polarity. The multiple-charging phenomenon associated with electrospray makes possible the generation of multiply charged reactant ions that yield charged products as a result of partial neutralization due to i...

Porous electrodes are widely used in electrochemical systems instead of flat electrodes to boost storage capacities for ions and electrons, to improve the transport of mass and charge, and to enhance reaction rates. Existing porous electrode theories make a number of simplifying assumptions: (i) The charge-transfer rate is assumed to depend only on the local electrostatic potential difference b...

Charge-transfer-to-solvent (CTTS) reactions represent the simplest possible electron-transfer reaction. One of the reasons that such reactions have become the subject of recent interest is that transfer of a CTTS electron from an atomic anion to the solvent involves only electronic degrees of freedom, so that all the dynamics involved in the reaction are those of the solvent. Thus, CTTS reactio...

Charge Transfer (CT) complexes formed between dibenzo-24-crown-8 (DB24C8) as an electron donor with the σ-electron acceptor iodine (I2) in chloroform, dichloromethane, and 1,2-dichloroethane solutions have been studied by different spectroscopic techniques at room temperature. The spectral studies of the complexes were det...

Oxygen reduction on the surface of a rotating disk electrode RDE in 0.5 M H2SO4 is simulated by including mass transfer, adsorption, and charge transfer. A generalized model for the adsorption and reaction of several species is introduced. The oxygen reduction reaction is simulated as a limiting case where oxygen is the only species adsorbed, and oxygen reduction is the only reaction that takes...

Flavin reductase catalyzes the reduction of free flavins by NAD(P)H. As isolated, Escherichia coli flavin reductase does not contain any flavin prosthetic group but accommodates both the reduced pyridine nucleotide and the flavin substrate in a ternary complex prior to oxidoreduction. The reduction of riboflavin by NADPH catalyzed by flavin reductase has been studied by static and rapid kinetic...

Doped and undoped ZnS semiconductor nanocrystals having different recombination pathways are explored to study the charge transfer reaction between the nanocrystals and the 4-nitrophenol/sodium borohydride redox couple.

In this work, we successfully, for the first time, perform the molecular doping of graphene as metal-free electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction. The doped small molecule onto graphene could induce the charge transfer between graphene and the molecules, which leads to significantly enhanced electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction.

An information-theoretical complexity analysis of the SN2 exchange reaction for CH3Cl + F is performed in both position and momentum spaces by means of the following composite functionals of the one-particle density: D-L and I-J planes and Fisher-Shannon’s (FS) and López-Ruiz-Mancini-Calbet (LMC) shape complexities. It was found that all the chemical concepts traditionally assigned to elementar...
