Charophytes are the group of green algae whose ancestral lineage gave rise to land plants in what resulted in a profoundly transformative event in the natural history of the planet. Extant charophytes exhibit many features that are similar to those found in land plants and their relatively simple phenotypes make them efficacious organisms for the study of many fundamental biological phenomena. ...

Using the patch-clamp technique, we recorded single-channel currents across the excised patch of the plasma membrane of Nitellopsis. Both K(+) and Na(+) can pass this channel, but currents were not carried by Cl(-). Upon the addition of ATP or AMP to the cytoplasmic side, the frequency of channel opening decreased. This is the first report on an ATP-regulated channel in plant cells.

The Charales (stoneworts) are an ancient monophyletic group with conserved features same in ancesters as well as in present representatives. They are considered to be closely related to the ancestors of land plants. The taxonomy of Charales was delimitated on the basis of morphology and later by fossil characters as well. Nowadays, the higher taxa are relatively well defined and their delimitat...

Abstract The 2200 m thick Cretaceous units of well Gänserndorf UeT3 have been biostratigraphically analyzed based on cuttings from 3210 to 5140 m. deposits the Tirolic Glinzendorf Syncline (a part buried Northern Calcareous Alps) can be largely correlated with Lower Gosau Subgroup Grünbach Syncline. An exception is basal unit, which has no equivalent in This lower unit subdivided into a non-mar...

The middle Paleocene Newell’s Nook biota of the Tongue River Member Fort Union Formation, southeastern Montana, is best known for its early Tiffanian mammalian fauna. Here, we describe an informative fruit and seed assemblage from this locality. These records refine lower stratigraphic boundary several plant genera more widely paleobotanical localities less certain assignment within upper help ...

In a time of rapid environmental changes, identification the effects climate warming on charophytes (Characeae, Charophyta) will enable optimization conservation measures, especially for extremely rare species. Lychnothamnus barbatus is one rarest worldwide, which has decreased in number occupied sites over last century. However, recolonization former been observed recent years (e.g. Lake Kuźni...
