Polysaccharide-induced protein fluorescence 'turn-on' responses have been studied in the presence of similarly charged micelle at pH ∼3. Quenched protein fluorescence is selectively recovered ('on' state) for bovine serum albumin (BSA) with sodium carboxy methyl cellulose (SCMC) and for pepsin (PS) with chitosan (CS) with starting ultra low concentrations of 0.04 μM and 0.008 μM respectively.

Structured biofoams have been prepared from the readily available renewable biopolymer xylan by employing an icetemplating technique, where the pore morphology of the material can be controlled by the solidification conditions and the molecular structure of the polysaccharide. Furthermore, reinforcement of these biodegradable foams using cellulose nanocrystals shows potential for strongly impro...

Cellulose is an economically important material, but routes of its industrial processing have not been fully explored. The plant cell wall - the major source of cellulose - harbours enzymes of the xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase (XTH) family. This class of enzymes is unique in that it is capable of elongating polysaccharide chains without the requirement for activated nucleotide sugar...

Previous studies have explored the potential of pomace valorization, with an emphasis on transformation polysaccharide biopolymers pomace-cellulose and hemicellulose to produce high-value bioproducts such as microcrystalline cellulose. Notably, opportunities for exploration biopolymer pomace-lignin its employment in biomedical applications tissue engineering not been comprehensively explored. T...

Lignocellulose is a generic term for describing the main constituents in most plants, namely cellulose, hemicelluloses, and lignin. Lignocellulose is a complex matrix, comprising many different polysaccharides, phenolic polymers and proteins. Cellulose, the major component of cell walls of land plants, is a glucan polysaccharide containing large reservoirs of energy that provide real potential ...

Strains of the genus Gramella (family Flavobacteriacae, phylum Bacteroidetes) were isolated from marine habitats such as tidal flat sediments, coastal surface seawater and sea urchins. Flavobacteriaceae have been shown to be involved in the decomposition of plant and algal polysaccharides. However, the potential to decompose polysaccharides may differ tremendously even between species of the sa...

Bis(benzimidazole)amine-based copper complexes, with structural similarities to the active sites of Lytic Polysaccharide Monooxygenase enzymes (LPMOs), were tested for oxidative degradation cellulose. Spectroscopic characterization as well authentication one them, confirm a tetragonal coordination environment 3 nitrogen donors, thioether in axial positions. Aqueous cellulose was achieved CuII c...

Organic matter decomposition in the globally widespread coniferous forests has an important role in the carbon cycle, and cellulose decomposition is especially important in this respect because cellulose is the most abundant polysaccharide in plant litter. Cellulose decomposition was 10 times faster in the fungi-dominated litter of Picea abies forest than in the bacteria-dominated soil. In the ...

Cellulose is crystallized by plants and other organisms into fibrous nanocrystals. The mechanical properties of these nanofibers the formation helical superstructures with energy dissipating adaptive optical depend on ordering polysaccharide chains within nanocrystals, which typically measured in bulk average. Direct measurement local chain arrangement has been elusive. In this study, we use em...

In recent years, efforts to develop new materials for the food industry have focused mainly on polysaccharides- and proteins-based films or coatings. Fast inexpensive analytical tools are needed guarantee their compositions. This work evaluates feasibility of a rapid accurate method based UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy combined with chemometric techniques analyze polysaccharide-based authentication co...
